Ah, yes, the game where I found out about Dwarf Fortress, ironically. I was playing on a now-defunct multiplayer server after having been hacked by some dickhead who ruined my massive underground glass lava-covered dome beneath my plantation, flooding the whole damn thing. Someone randomly mentioned DF and I brushed it aside. I heard a bit more about it and eventually some random bit caught my attention. I eventually saw something about it online randomly and found the wiki. Downloaded it and spent a few days reading tons of tutorials before completely bombing into a tantrum spiral because I forgot to make booze.


Ahh, good times, indeed!


Anyone have a nice, ambitious/adventurous/open multiplayer server WITHOUT griefers? I'm really tired of spending days on end building awesome symmetrical architecture and my classic underground glass cavern surrounding by magma, and then some 15-year old fuckwit comes in and tnt's the whole place to hell.

Minecraft after all. I can read the code and understand
whats there but well yeah, maybe I just need some sleep.

You could ask to be whitelisted on PlaneHacked. There are no known griefers, but I don't know if the servers are currently up.

I'm working on it. I want to cut down the number of servers- I'm thinking of just Project and Linear, Linear being a one-chunk-wide world idea I've been playing with. At the moment I think what we may end up doing is using some kind of block protecting mod to just prevent movement and digging outside of the active region. This would at least mean it would look like a sidescroller from the right direction, with distant background mountains and such.

One chunk total would be...  A 16x16 square.
Would that even be enough for ONE person?  I'm none too sure.

Well people have played Dwarf Fortress maps with
one square embarks and I assume they could do
the same with a single chunk as well though it is
smaller. Probably just end up with something awesome
because of the space constraint.

Not too much interesting stuff you can do with a 16xinfinity area that you can't do with a 1000000x1000000 area.

I think that the constraints will lead to interesting projects. In particular, it will lead to more interaction between players, since you'll need to pass through each other's homes on the way to get anywhere.

PTTG wants there to be void, not bedrock walls.

The simplest way is to install WorldEdit and shave away the extra chunks.

That'd take quite a bit of time if you want the map to be any length though
