Well, I'll wait for 3 more updates 'til it's stable.

edit: The wiki says the pistons can't move chests and stuff. But can they do it indirectly? Pushing a block with a chest on it?

No, chests just can't be moved at all.

So, the code Notch put in a few versions ago to save people who dropped sand on themselves is making piston deathtraps rather.... not deadly.

I saw "shears" and thought, "Oh, cool, he's added stuff so we can make hedges and shit easily."

It seems that the saving mechanic only functions if you're within one block of air.
This leaves the problem of people mining themselves free from within the casing, although lava running along the roof of the hallway solves that problem.

I'm thinking push a layer of lava on top of the hallway, so you mine out the block you're trapped in, and suddenly lava, or maybe water so we can recover the goods afterwards

Especially as I reqire sticky pistons for my deathhall idea

Hmm.. Possible alternative using regular pistons, must investigate further

I saw in a video cobble stone blocks coming out from a wall and moving forward. Possibility of pistons being able to push other pistons?
