Forum Business: Mafia Game Spinoff Section
« on: May 16, 2009, 10:09:33 am »

I'm not sure where exactly a thread regarding forum stuff should go, but this seems right.  Of course, all forum business only pends under Toady's purview.

When forum game threads started filling up what was then Various Nonsense, it warranted making a new section just for forum games.  When the Roll To Dodge concept appeared, it became very popular very quickly because of it's structure, and soon enough there were so many of them that they warranted a sub-section of their own under the new Games and Roleplaying board.

I contend that Mafia-type games have now achieved the same status.  Right now there are about thirteen Mafia threads in the first two pages of the Games section.  As a structured gametype open to anybody and their soapmaker, it seems reasonable to me that they now warrant an all Mafia section as well.

I agree with Aqizzar, mafia are a very popular type of game, and are getting cluttersome. Placing them in their own section will tidy things up.

I support not only having a different forum for Mafia games, but also for LPs.

I strongly disagree with separating LPs. We don't need a new subsection for every single fad that rolls along.

I agree with Inaluct, the more subsections there are, the more pointless the main board is.

There's just about the same amount of LPs as there are Mafia topics.

I would agree with an LP section as well, probably under Other Games where it really belongs.

The reason I bring it up is that they're all relatively standardized systems, and ergo attract many of the same players.  Diluting the main Games board is beside the point, because the ironic confluence of more forum members and little DF activity means there's a lot more activity in the Games area.  A section for RTDs, section for Mafias, section for LPs, and then the main board holds everything else.  Now that members can move their own threads it's not even much work for Toady, since he wouldn't have to sift through everything himself.

Mafia moved? Check.

LP's moved? Check. It's a bit more than a fad.

Fine, but I blame Inaluct.

Lemme set up the mafia one first and we can see how forum games looks in a few days after things have sifted.

Okay, I moved over a bunch of the ones with "mafia" in the title.  Feel free to move back any that shouldn't have been moved.  Also, if there are mafia threads that didn't get moved (especially those variants or whoever that might not have mafia in the name), you can either move them, or just let me know in here.

I didn't expect a response so quickly.  Well, let the experiment commence then.

Whatever the opinions, thanks just for taking the interest Toady.
