It's the symbol of my current fortress. I must say, they have excellent taste.

4x4 wall segments for each pixel, which amounts to about 36 z-levels.

A joke involving the text of a masterful engraving would be appropriate here.

How'd you build the thing? Did you have lots of scaffolding right next to the face?

Wow. Just Wow. this deserves some sort of dwarven award, probably made of magma.

Just the supporting ladders you already see, plus another ladder going up as high as the top of the beard (removed by now), and some bridges going off to the sides of the ladders (also removed).

Sadly, I have no magma (or sand, flux, iron, copper, running water, or any other resource or mineral of value except giant-ass mountains full of cassiterite, and some HFS under one of the mountains).

The only thing more impressive than the sheer size of that thing is the fact that in shots 2 and 3, it is visibly dwarfed(no pun) by the mountain next to it!

Oh, yeah, the mountains are pretty big. The tallest spots on the map are a plateau and a rock formation that looks suspiciously like Armok is flipping the bird at me when I view it in 3Dwarf, and both are about 100 z-levels tall.

Here's a few pictures of the map I took when I first arrived on it:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'll get an update of the whole map with that thing included, lemme get 3Dwarf up again.

I'm digging a tower to the top of that big section. I've got most of the inside dug, now I'm digging out the outside. I've got lots of plans for this map; I don't really have a lot do do until the new version of DF gets released and I can start modding again.

Yes please.  I would like to see more pictures of this.  I need to get 3dwarf up and running...

▼It is certainly a nice mountain, Inaluct.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The big mountain is about 2.5 times as tall as the monument.

There's a guard house at the south gate; there's also another monument I've started building. It won't be quite as tall.

There's not a whole lot of stuff on the far side of the west mountain, just a rainwater collection system and an execution tower built entirely out of Cassiterite (when I realized it would be far more awesome just to drop the goblins from the plateau, I cut the tower short but left a hole in the top so I can still drop goblins in it). The north gate isn't anywhere nearly as heavily defended (I don't even have a drawbridge, it's just a whole bunch of cage traps), since most invasions tend to come from the south, but I'm going to have to beef it up eventually.

Oh, and the southern mountain has HFS under it. I just lost two of my three champions and half of my marksdwarves to a goblin sieged, so I won't be cracking that anytime soon (although I will be digging out much of that mountain and building another monument in there).

With a mountain that big im surprised your playing in that area, it'll get really laggy as you get more dwarves...

Awesome.  I love how the staircases look like some kind of chain from a distance, I can just imagine the eyes and mouth swaying in a breeze.
Truly a masterful statue.
