[...]

Hey, I almost grabbed this at EB Games, too. But I already got Hearts of Iron 3, so I don't want to add any more games to my collection at the moment.

When I was playing EU3 (just the original, expansions had not been released back then), I always played as Bradenburg because I'm interested in European history and my goal was always to dominate Western Europe.  :P

Anyway, I came from that SE Asian region you conquered. I'm surprised you live in Aussie and learned about Majapahit!

no one seemed to mention it.. but you mentioned annoying ping-ponging, which was removed in the newest expansion... HTTT[heir to the throne] is quite a good expansion... [although without the beta patch there are some serious balance issues..]

And you need Magna Mundi mod. game is much cooler with it

Managed to colonize half of the North America with Morocco. Spent entire budget on government tech for centuries to get the needed ideas. Now going to Australia

Alliance with Portugal was very helpful in all my wars, cuz my land tech suck

I'm very sad about the game right now as paradox released a patch which was incompatible with Magna Mundi, so I can't play the game for real without reinstalling it... I keep getting urges to play the game and then conquering the world with painful ease while looking at the nauseating map, but I digress.
The game is really fun, and honestly my favorite strategy game in terms of game mechanics and history. It doesn't have quite the amazing story telling aspect that Crusader Kings has, and the combat isn't as fun as Hearts of Iron, but all in all it's a rewarding experience and I've spent hundreds of delighted hours with the game. Also, yeah, ping-ponging was actually fixed in the newest expansion, with most armies not being easily able to recover from two consecutive defeats.

I only study in Australia. Heh, I've got a lot of ancestors going back to SE Asian and Arabian nobility, so my family are all history fans. Also working on a RPG basing on a theme from the area, so I picked up some history along the way.

I thought it was awesome that the game portrayed the area in that much detail. I mean the rest of Europe's is in some ridiculous detail starting 1399, but even cooler that some obscure area worked realistically.

BTW, I think there's a new version of Magna Mundi out for the latest version of EU3: IN. I just downloaded it.
EDIT: No, wait, it doesn't work.  :(

The new version that you downloaded is for HTTT. Go back a bit to find the MMP2 topic in the Magna Mundi forums. I was banned before I had a chance to post, 'cause I made 2 accounts.

That's because it's played by an experienced player. In most games, the natives are doomed, though if you get rid of "annex = yes" for pagan religions, then, the native americans will stay alive for a long time.

Oh, and I'm planning on re-installing EU3 and starting a zero-player game, but not sure if it should be an AAR or not.

Well, that's pretty realistic if you ask me. A moderately experienced player could probably stay alive as natives if they associate themselves with a major power, too.

I decided to try the demo, and am currently struggling along as Modena. Bosnia and Montenegro are falling beneath me, but the silly Greeks are slaughtering me.

So they came out with a new patch for MMU (HTT) but it was pulled because it modified the exe to get the game to work.
Damn pirate bay is lagging.

Ahh.. just got MMP2 for In Nomine. Damn, that's an amazing mod. 264 page manual and all of it is worth reading. It's probably the best manual I've read in years too.. none of that garbage where it points out the stuff you get from tool tips in games. It highlights every small detail without actually spoilering anything.

Heh, and that Malacca game is a heck lot more realistic and fun in MMP2. Income was extreme. Even though it was impossible to build an empire even the size of England, the tiny extra trade and naval stuff really fleshed out Southeast Asia.

A lot of the middle eastern empires seem to shatter near the start, though. Huge empire like Timurids went down to 0 taxes and was losing money with the budget slider on at full. I don't know if I messed something up there, but I wouldn't call it anywhere near as easy as the game suggests. Gonna try with a central American tribe once I get the hang of how it works. Also, I love how the game simulates the tribal empires and the fight for the throne, even at vanilla EU3: IN.

I'm surprised I haven't bothered to get this game earlier.

I migrated from Indonesia to Australia recently. I'm the funny guy within my circle of friends, because I'm the only one who is intrigued by history (well, the warfare aspect of it).  :P

So what's the story with Magna Mundi? Will the modders release a version that is compatible with the latest patch for EU3 Complete?

Yeah. MM Platinum 2 works with EU3 Complete. It just doesn't work with HTTT, apparently. I got confused by that too, lol. Too many stickies in the MM forum.

They released 1.2 for the HTT MM, but it ran using a separate exe that modified the original exe as it ran to avoid instant CTD issues. Paradox obviously pulled it after a few hours of the download being up, but I'm sure the MM team's real intention was just to get it onto the web, anyway. Actually, the first result on google for MMU 1.2 download is just that. It's pretty stable in my opinion, though that's having played only two different countries so far.
