Wrestling problems
« on: May 13, 2009, 10:15:59 pm »

I'm wandering through adventure mode and trying to figure everything out. I seem to have one problem though, involving the wrestling mechanic. I can catch hold of the things and I can strangle, but I can't seem to do locks or anything that would allow the more advanced techniques. It seems all I can do is release. Is there something I'm overlooking? Does it have to be done with only the lower arms? Or do I have to be to a certain level to do it?

Perhaps its the enemies I'm doing it on? I'm trying things out on wolves.

edit: I figured out how to do the gouging of eyes (need a free hand) but I still have yet to be able to perform locks. Do they only work on humanoids?

To lock and break joints you have to grab bodyparts with HANDS (so you have to drop your weapon or put in it your backpack. 'P' hotkey). If you grab a head with a hand, you can gouge out eyes.

you can only do locks to humanoids though right? I've gotten it to work on a human but never on the millions of wolves that keep attacking me

Locks can only be performed on creatures that have joints.  In vanilla DF, only humanoids have joints.

I'm not 100% certain, but I think you can lock joints with limbs.  You just can't pinch and gouge out eyes and such without a free hand.

This. You can grab that elf's upper arm with your foot and break his sholder if you want. You also have to grab with a free hand if you want to steal his items. Grab wooden shield with your hand, then I (shift+i) and the shield should be red.

Yeah, I sadisticly broke all the limbs of a giant and then tried to strangle him.  Damn swordsman behind me ripped his throat out though, before I could finish the job.
