BTW If you are going to make the tutorial station I'll be happy to help with making it.

Shouldn't be too hard.. Just need to get the latest version of whatever mod we're using at the moment and craft a map around that... (And un-melt my PC)

It is, but then it wouldn't be as fun/quirky.
Also holy shit the Ckey Switcheroo key should be destroyed, it's a WMOD.

I guess it might be possible to have this game re-made on gamemaker pro, but that would take weeks, maybe even months as well as having a banning system in place. Not to mention the nightmare ping management would be. You probably won't lag as much though, probably.

It also makes coding harder as everyone who wishes to code would need to get gamaker pro as well.

It's quite possible even in C!
(In C you can do anything! Though some things need embedded ASM...)

Update on tutorial:

Tutorial text and door triggers.


They will only trigger if their id is in the player's tutorial state list.
Text displays text, and door increments the door's counter until you leave the turf.

Tutorial doors are closed until it's counter is within a range(max may be -1 for infinite)

An id of null will trigger any time, an id_list (player's tutorial state is set to this even triggered) of null is ignored(no change).

Should I make the tutorial code open source?
Regardless, I'll release V0.1 to the hosts(or everyone if it is decided that public is better) as soon as I get back from FOOD.


ALso, I need your input of desired features.

You know what we need?

A long and boring text for first-time joiners.

If they accidentally click a cleverly placed button, which occurs through quick-clicking, then they get auto-ban for 10 hours.

Idea from Builder's Fantasy.

Should clear out any griefers, due to boredom.
Could be implemented through tut. or something like that.

Okay, I don't know who maps for BS12, so if nobody tells me who they are, I WILL release the current tutorial code, icons, and sample map.


Also, I NEED SUGGESTIONS FOR TUTORIAL COMPONENTS.

Engine starting, how to use a space suit and oxygen, wall repair, bomb making.

Maybe making a series of rooms that require you to do things commonly needed in the game....Don't forget AI tutorial as well.

Currently it only responds to a player entering(and exiting) a turf.

What is needed is other kinds of triggers, mostly.

However, everything must be able to automatically reset itself, and that is the hard part.



For an engine tutorial, it would have to be able to clear all the gas lines and engine area, delete the cannisters, and spawn a new set, all when the player leaves the area after successfully starting the "engine".

For that, it would probably need the tutorial system to be generalized into generic triggers and generic triggered objects.



And I have come to a conclusion on the release:

The current limited system will be public, while the more generalized system that can teach such things as wire repair, wall construction, engine initiation, an stuff, will be privately released, or only publicly released after a decision by all current official BS12 developers/hosts.
