Best thing to do is snag a pair of gloves early, even if you aren't the traitor. Nothing like handling a toolbox to have it later used as a murder weapon and have you implicated with it.

or better yet, get gloves, and use fingerprint scanner to make a duplicate of someone elses fingerprints.

Go ahead and write your own then, Micro.  :P  I actually LIKE most of the stuff in SS13.

As for the general chaos in a 40 person game, it's often less than you find on small servers.  Big, well-developed servers are often well-behaved, often because people flock to well-maintained servers that ban people who just start chucking bombs right away!  People are often surprisingly calm, and it's way harder to actually break the station.  You end up with like eight guys working on getting the prototype up and running if the main engine breaks--and if you want to get away with murder, it's HARD to do it quietly.  Totally epic traitor last game was on his like 4th assumed identity after a couple hours (!!), when he got caught bludgeoning the geneticist so he could use the genetics room unmolested--some security guy happened to be dragging a body in there.

Also, with that many people, the admins aren't shy about job-banning people who prove that they suck at AI or captain.  Which means you get a GOOD AI, a GOOD captain, etc.  And a good AI can make a whole lot of difference in keeping things running smoothly...oh yeah, and usually Melons or someone is playing a competent investigator, which means that casual griefers wind up in the brig.

(Of course, when you can get away with it, it's a ton of fun admittedly...why do you think I'm always atmospherics when I'm not something cooler...)

You're talking about a goon server, right?

Funny. Because every time I went there, it was a massive grief fest menacing with spikes of badmins. The final straw was when an admin job banned me from EVERY SINGLE JOB for roleplaying! I got job banned from all the jobs for ROLEPLAYING!

And wth why dont we make a pure dwarf fortress version of this? I wouldnt mind trying it.

I wouldnt mind trying one such game too. But I WOULD mind trying to code it myself. In other words: I'd play it, but I wouldnt like making it myself.

EDIT: So, any plans for today's game?

Ok so currently it seems that the game lacks a focus, other than beat the game mode. It seems a bit unrealistic that a space station would exist solely so some traitor can blow it up. So I've been thinking and I don't know how difficult it would be to code but what if as well as a game mode each game also has an objective. This is pretty much an expansion on the asteroid idea, with mining being one of the objectives, based on each objective the map would differ slightly. Examples could be:

Religious research group: More prominent chapel less in the way of the genetics type stuff no bar, the aim would be to develop a holy weapon (bomb), this would require more complicated bomb making obviously. Essentially you build and test a bomb until you find one that meets the requirements (This could suffer from meta-gaming as once people know how to make a bomb they'll only make 1 to test and 1 to take away rather than using trial and error) Once you have an appropriate bomb you have to build a second one and take it away in the shuttle.

Medical research: Featuring more prominent genetics and medical facilities you are researching a cure for a highly contagious illness (got fed up of misspelling deasise) some players would be test subjects and would be spawned in separate rooms with very little equipment, their objective is to escape and anyone who gets too close without wearing the proper equipment gets infected doctors have to try to cure all the infected.

Anyhow these are just a couple of ideas, essentially the idea is to give a clear aim to work toward with the game mode essentially being a major hurdle that you're going to have to clear to get there.

Well, SS13 was designed as a research station, so yeah. The game modes were here to hamper the progress of research. However, since nearly everything has been discovered, it has less of a point.

However, there is still stuff to be discovered. Remember the laser door trick I did one time? (I should show more people.)

How much processor power does this require? I have a work computer that is left on all night that might do it, but it isn't the fastest thing in the world. Does have a nice internet connection though.

@beorn: Last time I checked, it didn't take much. Even less than 1 Go of RAM will do it.

Ok everyone! Here are the server files, even though they are most likely to be updated shortly.

http://www.fileplanet.com/201644/200000/fileinfo/Bay-12-SS13-Server-Files

I can host right now, but I won't be playing, at all, so I hope an admin logs on before people start to think we're slacking off on our awesome.
