So while I'm working on MS12, I'm thinking it might be nice to have new tasks for chemists and geneticists.

For geneticists, perhaps a way to increase or reduce tolerances to various gases (survive with only 15% O2 for example).  And new disabilities--alcoholism would be a good place to start, very dwarven.  Mild ore-dust sensitivity, etc, minor things where -everyone- gets one random minor disability that they just have to deal with or get cured.  Naturally, you'll have to trust the geneticist...

For chemists, asteroid rocks normally mine very slowly, but if you test an ore sample with other chemicals, you can find some catalyst that will increase mining speed if you load the miners' drills with it.  Naturally, the chemist can also make thermite and probably even cyanide!

Also thinking that bombs will be totally legit to carry near the mining sites, but there should be a bomb detector that will flip out if you enter the rest of the station with one.  Of course it can be tampered with.

Great ideas, I love them!

Random diseases used to be in the game actually.  People got annoyed with them because they were too frequent.(Plus tourrettes is really annoying)  I had plenty to do when the job was still called Medical Researcher.  Course half the time, I'd replace their UI with my own, tell them they were fixed, and kick them back out again.

They were never removed though in the original source.  Ex changed them to not be so common though.  Currently in the original open source it's bugged I've noticed.  It's supposed to have a random chance(1 out of 3125 or something like that) of giving you a disease, but it was actually a 1 out of 3125 chance of getting all diseases.

Unless of course they don't fit properly and your feet blister up like bubble wrap.
Oh ho ho, but don't try to return the shoes, because they won't take them back once you've worn them.
Especially if that fat pig Tony is at the desk.

You should give the geneticists the ability to make a person explode violently when the geneticist inputs a memory command.  That would be intense.

We should do something like that.

Yeah, the problem with the original diseases is that they are WAY overpowered.  They need to be weaker.  Tourettes would be more gameplay-friendly if it just made you shout "ELVES" in the middle of your sentences sometimes instead of making you not able to hold anything at all.  I don't know what the vision problems thing does, but if it reduced your visible radius by one square when not wearing glasses (and spawned you with glasses), that sounds okay.

I played my first game last night. I spawned as an assistant, walked around bored for 15 minutes, helped kill a blob (I think), and then got recruited by the chemist to "help" him. He taught me to make a drug, I have no idea what it was or did, then he had me make a fire bomb which I accidently set off and killed myself with right at the end of the game. I was think a ghost watching people hang out near the shuttle port.

The game was borderline unplayable due to the unresponsiveness of the client. It was hard to tell if I was hitting the right buttons to attack the blob since it could have been either my own failure or the games just taking forever to process.

It also seemed like there was no goal to the game. Like we were just waiting for the traitor to fuck stuff up bad enough for the captian to justify calling the shuttle. What is the point to making drugs and stuff if our goal is just to get out?

Also, saying "Common Sense" is how you figure things out in a game this complicated/unfriendly is very counter productive.

Fikes, the game doesn't take all that long to process (on goonstation servers at least, I'm not as familiar with Bay Station 12's lag).  The main thing is that many actions incur a time penalty during which you can't act afterwards.  Once you get used to that, you'll find it more responsive; the penalty is always the same amount, so just get used to that wait.

...I feel like there should be a very small buzzer sound when you try to do something and fail due to time penalty.

The reason for the delay is the potential for AHK and other programs to send massive numbers of commands at once. Its really not all that unresponsive if you think of it as a casting delay.

Also, do you need another admin. I can't play much before about 1030PM eastern, but I can certainly help.

I mean unresponsive in everything. A half to a quarter second delay between clicking and item and picking it up. Even moving the camera in ghost mode is terrible.

I'd be fine if I pressed down and moved down instantly, but couldn't move down again right away. Instead it seems like the system is saying "Okay, you can move down NEXT "turn"."

Yes, you are. It is a server processed system, so all commands go through the server. Things like WoW have delays in everything but movement, you just can't tell cause the animations take so long.

It was only my second day playing the game and Well You don't remember correctly because I had asked a security officer to watch him and make sure he didn't do anything that would make him a traitor. Then you said that I had no reason to watch him or the target and said I was crazy, tazed me, put in cell, and banned.
