I see this as Dwarf Fortress in space. Seriously, in a standard game you get a few psychopatic murderers, a malicious AI, a paranoid captain, engineers who choke themselves because they can't tell a pipe valve from an external valve, and people who try to beat themselves to death with an ID card.

Yeah, afterall, this is only one of many, many stations built by centercom. I doubt they would be able to man every single one of them with only the best of the best. Who said there was no shortage of competent scientists? Besides, sometimes, the most skilled scientists are also the most insane. Centercom might overlook that thinking, "Hey, lets send this dangerous guy far away from us, so that he conducts research that might turn out useful to us without actually being dangerous to us."

well, that is surprisingly rational, Poltfar.


also, tip to every non geneticist out there: when dealing with hulks, just take some clean DNA from DNA machine. that way, you can heal the hulk (or any other power, really. but the other ones are probably more useful and less dangerous)
still, running away from you kilelrs was fun.

hey, i test on myself only things that are 100% safe. if a person had the opportunity to get a non hulk power like the ones you can get in SS13, i think many people, geneticists included, would take it.



The first time you tried it it didn't work and you RP'd you were feeling sick. A real scientist would not inject himself AGAIN.

Are you really trying to say there are 12 competent geneticists out there in the freaking future and they just ran out?

Besides, sometimes, the most skilled scientists are also the most insane.
Maybe on TVTropes.

Centercom might overlook that thinking, "Hey, lets send this dangerous guy far away from us, so that he conducts research that might turn out useful to us without actually being dangerous to us."
More like "Hey, let's take this crazy guy we normally wouldn't have anything to do with and put him on one of our stations so that he could possibly lead to billion credit losses! Bankruptcy is fun!".

you still speak as if tehre was any danger of something bad happening to me . at most, tehre was a bit of radiation poisoning, that could be healed with few antitoxines.

People who are excessively picky about RP tend to get better RP, but only very, very little of it.  :x

It's fine to lock up a geneticist for experimenting on themself, but saying that's OOC objectionable is...kinda...weird...

And it doesn't sound like there was a total lack of RP at all.  Beggars, choosers, etc.  Pub servers are way, way worse.

Well the reason scientists don't perform experiments on themselves all the time is because there is fear that it will taint the results.

Some scientists also for example discredited Jane Goodall (and the other two people) for becoming so involved with their subject.

It isn't for any moral reason except possibly using company equipment for personal use.

It's not that he was griefing or blowing the station up with superheated plasma bombs. Just injected himself with some weird shit.

I just say we forget this. Its not worth arguing over, as Gantolandon pointed out.

Lets instead discuss the modding plans. Since Yanlin seems confident that an HL2 mod of SS13 would be nice, I propose using Garry's Mod. Google it if you've never heard of it. Basically a great sandbox-mod were you can build contraptions and play with them in many ways, including making your own mini-games. I never actually used it myself, but I heard alot of good about it, and also, I heard about a previous attempt at a spaceship and spacestation game in this mod that turned out well enough. I'd say its worth looking into, instead of just blindly trying to re-invent the wheel by coding an HL2 mod from scratch.

EDIT: Quick description of Gmod from Steam:
