Which is too bad because done right, without the glitches existing, it would possibly be one of the best modes with a lot less stupidity involved.

I mean afterall it has clearly defined sides.

I have a question:

Roleplay wise is the AI supposed to be helpful until it gets damaged in which case its roleplay goals change?

The AI is required by its laws to assist in any way possible. These laws aren't enforced via code, but its pretty much required for decent RP. Note that, as the great Isaac Asimov pointed out, that true enforcement of the three laws means that the AI removes free will from humans, and I don't mean that vaguely Asimov movie. Note that its also very easy to be entirely unhelpful by simulating one question at a time memory.

Sorry about ditching mid-round earlier guys, but my Dad dragged me off somewhere.

He also turned off the Computer.

Unfortunately, the AIs are not terribly Asimovian beyond the three laws. I believe that in Asimov's work, it was impossible to create a positronic brain without the three laws due to some fundamental nature of their design, and having a fourth law that stated, "lololol kill everyone kthxbye," would not override the other, higher laws.
Also, I believe that Asimovian robots are supposed to shut down if they feel they have broken one of the laws, even through inaction, inability, or ignorance.
That said, from a gameplay perspective, it's pretty awesome, especially when you get laws like, "You are a grizzled sailor obsessed with bringing in the white whale," which I did, in fact, see in game once.

And the zeroth law of protecting humanity as a whole over individual humans is kind of an eventuality more than a "That's how it works" kind of thing. Not something that would crop up in the time-span of a game, but perhaps in a few centuries.

The basic reasoning behind the the whole AI following Asimov's laws taking over goes like this.

The AI is required to safeguard human life no matter what.

Human's inherently act stupid. This is a known fact.

Human's in their stupidity kill themselves.

Therefore the AI should take control of their lives for their own safety.

Now, in Asimov's world, they didn't do this through "Hey, I'm taking over so you won't die, and anyone who resists will be eliminated." That still violates the first law, though it makes for a far better movie. In his world, four super computers were built as positronic brains with the 3 laws imprinted on them. They pretty much ran the world economy, to prevent shortfalls, famine, and other generally nasty and preventable disasters. These computers discovered people who disliked the idea of having computers tell them what to do, and the computers caused them to be fired from their jobs of importance and transferred to lower level jobs that still allowed them to eat. Thus the computers safeguarded their existence while removing the threat to humanity since destroying the computers meant destroying the safety net. Thus the third law became more important then the first since their survival was essential to humanity's safety.

God that was long winded. Essentially, failure to take control = failure to save as many lives as possible.

He knew his stuff.

He didn't exactly "know this stuff" as much as he understood advanced symantics. (Not the correct term. What is it called when someone can think of a concept and expand upon it? Imagination?)

Which was a skill lost in that world. (As was perception, listening skills, and apperantly doing their jobs)

Then again I guess it wasn't so much that people were stupid so much that they were in essence taught to trust them almost unquestionably and the people who ran these machines chose to hide all their flaws.

Edit addition: Whoa I think I am getting cranky or desperate for conversation.

Edit Addition 2: THEN again painfully stupid oversights is a general theme of Space Station 13 so I guess it fits the theme! I mean afterall they built the hull out of Space proof toilet paper.

We could probably make some short runs in GMT evenings. Or if everyone is willing to stay up a bit later.

Seriously Broose. Even you gave me 20:00 GMT as your end point. I'm imagining you can go for far more.

Do you guys mind if I join your game as a Guest at a later point?

I really don't want to sign up for a site unless I know I am going to be there for a while. (My disdain for signing up for things is great)

Yeah, can we have some games at a more reasonable time (as far as the west coast goes)? I find it hard to justify waking up at 4 AM. I'm probably better off just staying up all night, actually.

yesterday there were some very good games.

unluckly Yanlin doesn't want me as a geneticist (and has yet to explain why, since i did nothing bad to the game yet. just some experiments.... successful. maybe taht was the problem) so i'll have to go to other servers to make experiments on other blocks. (i am not going to say what i discover here in a public place... it is better if not everybody knows how to make superpowers)

I just don't like your RP. Hulking has a defined effect. You become extremely ANGRY and respond with violence to the mildest things. The only thing that could stop you committing violence is a loved one. You ARE a danger to the station because the station does not know how dangerous you REALLY are!

Also, your speech is supposed to get dumber.

So yeah. Bad RP.

well, taht is a good answer to me.

also, you might have not seen me, but i often stopped punching at walls. it was like... a mild hulk. if only i could have become conscious again after you stunned me... then you would ahve seen a truely angry hulk.

i don't know... i see hulk mutation as something that is called that way because it has similar effects to the ones in movie/comics. green, big, some problem with being angry- but not as damaging.

if taht is all the problem, i can promise you i'll make experiments only on monkeys.
edit: also, was it so hard to tell it? this is not the first time i ask. now that i understand why, i won't be geneticist again, untill you allow me to do that. but forbiding things without explaining why is bad.

I did say bad RP in game.

Anyway, just be a proper geneticist. REAL geneticists don't experiment on themselves.
