Why not? We stick them in a room with a mob that teaches them about roleplay with a simple AI. If the teacher gets killed, the person who did it gets banned. :D

I think I'll look into the ban process and see about creating a timed-unban.
I would have it check the server's time against the timeban list, and unban any players who are banned but the time has expired(and remove the timeban entry of them) at the start of each round, during server setup.
For compatibility, it would use it's own file.

Ideas where discussion would be nice:
-Optional "N rounds" ban?
--With optional combination with the time ban
---First to expire or both must expire modes?
-Ban modes between full ban, observer only, maybe others?
-Incremental bans(especially job bans) where as the time expires, more becomes available periodically until user is restored to normal?
-Admin features tied into bans, but only administerable to lower level admins?
--Incremental admin ban: each round moves one admin-rank towards normal?
-Semi-ban, where it isn't an outright ban, but a fraction of one, and if another one is added before the first expires, the user will be outright banned until enough expire that the fraction is less than 1 again?
-<your idea(s) here>?

Less than ideal. They'd just log out or kill the teacher anyway.

Make the teacher electrified. Anyone attempting to kill it gets a violent shock.

Then reroute the bar TVs to let people watch it. :D

And implement kneecaping with bassball bats and pistols, give the "teacher" a blood stained aporn, a bunch of sharp and shiny things and close the door. Very hard.

That'd be a good idea. Spawn first in a classroom before you're ready, with the teacher reminding you of things. Stay and listen, or don't, it's your choice.

Also, I hate to bring this up because I have a feeling it'll start an argument, but the Goonstation method where you choose a role even when the round is already on, as long as the role hasn't been taken, is really really good. Why don't we have anything like that?

Makes greifing 10 times easier, someone joins, selects engineer, and destorys the engine.

Also, makes HoP's/Captain's life way too easy.

Eh, some implied notion that we want to do our own little thing, even if it means not streamlining a tedious affair because the Goons did it first.

Which is just absurd, if it works, it should be implemented, or at least debated, coded in, found to be buggy, removed for debugging, forgotten, lost, found, then buried in peat.
