I would simply say a 3x3 power-hungry device(the corners would be walkable but occupied) that electromagnetically draws particles from nearby. The output would be linear while the power consumption exponential, and there would be at least one emergency shutoff switch, so that someone couldn't drain the SMESs in seconds. Maybe it goes up 1k power drain per second until it reaches the desired level?

It would gather elements, and when full, deposit a lump of composite ore to the south(Or maybe a configurable direction on the device itself?), and if there is a chute, it will move the output one extra tile and into any attached machine. One such machine would be a 2x2 refiner that could process it into raw materials. The refiner could also be used to reclaim the components of other objects. The output of that would pass further on, to a fabricator that would convert it to sheets, or one of the other directions to either a chemistry supply dispenser(packages it into refills for the chem. dispensor) or a fabricator for circuitry, cables, and such.

Is that a good idea? If so, I could try to code it. If not, it's merely an idea at this point.

Still intrested in opinions. Out of the potential intrest, I have already started looking into how to create it. (Already have a machinery that has one pipe connection and is a perpetual source of plasma, at least until I get rid of the line saying gas.plasma=1000000 or so)

I want to know if you, the players, readers, mappers, and fellow coders, have any arguments or suggestions.

Hmmm, possibly make it so that a person has to be working at it to create plasma?
(as in physically next to it), so people don't just set it to create tons of plasma.

It would gather all resources equally. Maybe it could be set to specialize, but it would return to normal after 10 seconds? That way, people could get plasma much faster, at the cose of personal time?

I would say that when it is specializing, it should generate half as much resources, but only of the one type.

Also, if this is implemented, I would remove most other canisters, replace them with custom (or empty) canisters, so that it gets a use. It only takes 1 canister to create ~20 bombs.

I see it more as a slow source of material, created from "nothing".

It would exist in a manufactoring area, and provide general material rather than specifically just plasma. The purpose being that it allows players to create materials without an admin to spawn them, but at the same time at a slow enough rate that it doesn't override normal methods.

Did you post it, or URL it?

Putting a link in [ url ]s tends to preserve it better, especially wikipedia links with ()s, so maybe it would preserve the rest as well?
