On the note of mining, hmmmmmmmmmmmm, I could possibly work something up for it. We were trying to do something to get metal, but hmm. New z-level, filled with a massive mass of Rwalls, walls, glass, grills, and random pockets of high pressure gas. Would be hazardous and fun.

Ustxu Iceraped the Frigid Crystal of Slaughter was a glacier titan. It was the only one of its kind. A gigantic feathered carp composed of crystal glass. It has five mouths full of treacherous teeth, enormous clear wings, and ferocious blue eyes. Beware its icy breath! Ustxu was associated with oceans, glaciers, boats, and murder.

It would have to be a shuttle, the current station isn't a mining outpost.  Although, of course, you could have to take a shuttle to the mining station.  On a moon.

Uhh, isn't it? Isn't that really the entire point of the station, extracting and researching plasma?

I would simply say a 3x3 power-hungry device(the corners would be walkable but occupied) that electromagnetically draws particles from nearby. The output would be linear while the power consumption exponential, and there would be at least one emergency shutoff switch, so that someone couldn't drain the SMESs in seconds. Maybe it goes up 1k power drain per second until it reaches the desired level?

It would gather elements, and when full, deposit a lump of composite ore to the south(Or maybe a configurable direction on the device itself?), and if there is a chute, it will move the output one extra tile and into any attached machine. One such machine would be a 2x2 refiner that could process it into raw materials. The refiner could also be used to reclaim the components of other objects. The output of that would pass further on, to a fabricator that would convert it to sheets, or one of the other directions to either a chemistry supply dispenser(packages it into refills for the chem. dispensor) or a fabricator for circuitry, cables, and such.

Is that a good idea? If so, I could try to code it. If not, it's merely an idea at this point.

Well, yes, a dedicated mining post would make sense, but at the same time, a particle scoop is a good excuse to put it on the station itself.

And, it is a great explaination for extracting plasma. In fact, I would reccomend that one output be a pipe for gasses.

I do believe that a fine location for such a device would be in the far southwest of the station.  Just move the observation deck down enough for a hallway to turn there, and place it to the west.

OK guys I have been reading some of this (though not all 500+ pages) and I think I'd like to try it out. Where do I start, what do I need to know, and can someone help me out by giving me or pointing me to a brief walkthrough or some kind of reference?

Download Byond, go to the IP when it is mentioned in this thread (file -> open location), and you are in.

Google for goonstation 13 wiki, it's almost the same as our station.
Also, if you need help use these commands:
ooc "HELP ME!
who (to see if anyone got that message)
adminwho (to see if admins are on)
adminhelp "AH HELP ME!

OOC is out of character speech.
Adminhelp sends it only to admins, helpful if you are the bad guy that round :D

Don't suppose you have the IP, so I don't have to page through a few hundred pages?

I think it's down right now....
and if it's up it should only be a couple pages back. Any more than that and it's probably down :D

Then.  Man, it's then.  Not than.

Also, do not attempt to play on the goon servers. Not a good experience.

Don't listen to him, the Goon servers are fine.  There's more grief than the other servers, but fun is had.
