Totally not on topic, but I'm thinking of starting a Let's Play of Deus Ex. Is this a good idea? Y/N?

Righto. There's a command I found in the code that apparently logs stuff into Dream Daemon, for the host. Maybe we can use this.

It should be accessible by all admins. Whenever a tank is connected to an assembly, it should log who did it.

Whenever a bomb is armed (Start timing, turn on the prox sensor, etc) or detonated (Radio signal) it should log exactly who did it and when.

Banning automatically, without giving much of a thought or hearing other stories: Bad

Banning without giving a second chance for major offenses: Good.

I think we can all agree on this.

If Poltifar's ideas are also in-line with these, then I am in fact agreeing with Poltifar.  Although to be fair, "breaking a plasma canister" is somewhat different than "destroying all plasma canisters on the station, opening doors so it gets everywhere, and setting fire to it".  :)

(except that sometimes the syndie is supposed to do that!)

The worst bannable offenses are always going to be "I know it when I see it".  Just don't get in the habit of banning without at least taking some time to make sure you know what's going on, that's where a lot of goonstation horror stories come from.  "Oh god there's a horrible fire everywhere and this guy just broke a plasma canister" doesn't mean he started the fire.  "I'm going to blow up the whole station with a 5000 degree bomb" however, that's worth an instant mazing (after making sure it's not someone with a voice thingy!), listening to a quick explanation, and probably banning.  Attacking in the newbie shuttle IS a very egregious offense...my point is just that you gotta know what's really going on.

I hope this helps with logging the creation of bombs.

One attackby() proc handles all the bomb types
(checks if you attack a plasmatank with any valid assembly).

- "user" is a /mob and the person who creates it.
- "src.gas.temperature" should state the temperature of the plasma in the tank.

I don't know what you want to do with the logged info so I won't implement the evil_log proc.
It will get (creator_of_bomb as mob, info_about_bomb as text) as parameters.

Make a new identifier that automatically attaches itself to a bomb whenever someone turns it on, and make it so only admins can see that in a window. For remote detonators, there is already a list for that. Would also help if it automatically listed the temp of a bomb.

This is a good idea. Much preferred over taking it out completely. The point of the station is to research, so Toxin Researchers should make bombs and test them, in the testing area. Basically, roleplay that you are researching.

Seriously Sowelu. I'll tell you what I mean by every point:

--Bombs: I dont mind people detonating bombs in general. I dont mind them detonating in the test chamber. But here's something that happened last week on the server: Some guy made a 1000 degrees bomb, announced on radio that he has a bomb and will blow it up, admin teleports to him to see whats happening, he blows it up AND A GOOD CHUNCK OF THE STATION EXPLODES, COMPLETELY DEPRESSURIZING THE REST OF THE STATION.

He wasnt the traitor, and we know he wasnt helping the traitor. He willingly ruined a perfect round fer everyone for no reason. Isnt that a insta-ban offense? If not, remove my adminship please.

I think the problem here is a misunderstanding of the term "insta-ban". Poltifar seems to think if you are not "insta-banning" you are letting someone have another chance. Sowelu seems to think "insta-banning" means to ban automatically. When you guys banned the person with the bomb, you were not insta-banning, because you took the time to get the information. (that he was not the traitor, and that he was not helping the traitor) The way I interpret the word is quickly banning at the first sight of griefing, without taking the time to get evidence or hear other stories.

So:

Banning automatically, without giving much of a thought or hearing other stories: Bad

Banning without giving a second chance for major offenses: Good.

I think we can all agree on this.

Is that what you mean, Poltifar? Because, yeah, you don't have to give someone a second chance if they just blew up the station.  ;D Just make sure you ban the right guy(s).

That's exactly what I mean by insta-banning, a ban without a second chance. I would NEVER ban someone without at least checking whether he did something wrong. Also, like I said, I'll abide by the rule of not banning anyone without checking with another admin.

Y'see, lots of griefers take the toxin researcher job just to easily make bombs.

It's not about lazy admins. It's about griefing mingefags.

We could just, create a new variable that controls bomb making.

All synds start with it on 1. In malfunction it's 1 for everyone and in all other cases, admins have to enable it for people.
