I have to agree, the directional idea is not exactly vital to the game. It's not vital for Dwarfed either but they're doing it anyways.

can you only manipulate objects in front of you? Will your character spin around to face whatever he's touching? If not, it just seems like useless flare to me...

Maybe a "quick action" key that acts like clicking in front of you?

Would have to depend on the objects available, but usually only one action is reasonable(gun: shoot that direction. Wrench: if there is one wrenchable object, do so. Crowbar: might be an issue differentiating "smash the cannister" and "tear up the tiles", so maybe have it prioritize interactable ojects over turf?)

Don't wanna sound ungrateful or anything, but I'm getting a lot of lag getting on our server. And I think it just went down.

There is a ton of lag.  My project for the next three days is eliminating as much of it as possible.

Only thing I'm aware of where facing matters is what direction you lay wire in if you click on the tile you're standing on with it. In the current code, anyway.

How many item sprites have you done? Maybe they will change their mind if you did around 25% already?

I just had the wierdest idea: model them in a voxel editor then get it to do the animations for you.

I'm trying to decide if I do want to scrap doing animations for the new directional mob because it would mean drawing 200+ hand item states for 11 items, and we have easily more than that.
I estimate about 1000 will have to be done, and that's if we only have like 25 items or so.

This is why it hasn't been done.

I havn't done item spirites yet, so far I have done human spirites and hair styles.
I havn't had much time to work and have been doing hairs and things, most of it is deciding how to do something and what to do for hair and stuff.
And this animation debate is critical to my work also.
Vote:
1.All directions
2.All directions and animations
3.only up/down
4.only down/left/right
5.Only up/down with animation
6. Only down/left/right with animations

Is only down with animations an option? I personally prefer only a single direction, one that actually is helpful in determining who someone is without clicking on them.
