also if pottery was introduced then it should be possible to make china clay, as this is made from kaolinite ( or however its spelt) this could be a high value trade good.

Anyways, I agree with you, there are extremely valuable objects that are made from clay. So, having some purely ornamental clay objectsas trade objects makes sense once you get a pottery industry up.
