Early King
« on: May 10, 2009, 06:49:08 pm »

So I have embarked in a near perfect location to began what i am calling operation shut in. The operation will began after i have 200 dwarves. The fortress will be permantly closed and all things will come from the earth. I have embarked on a location with a chasm, magma pipe, underground river, and glowing pits. I don't plan to exist forever in this state, just see how long i can survive.
This brings me to my problem. I cheated to find my may features early, so i have adamantine. Now in year 3, I have 49 workers (no problem) and a king...
Other then killing the poor bastard which i am planning to do, how can i get a modest office/bedroom/dining room to royal, and fast.

Is he already THAT upset?
Anyway, Have one stone detailer(2 if you have a LOT of space to cover), train them up to legendary by smoothing your entire fortress, then have him(or them) engrave the kings room, that should bump them up to near royal if they're big rooms, if they aren't big rooms, well, make him some new rooms, he deserves it, he's the best royalty ever, doesn't even make mandates! :D

His room is small. And floor is smoothed, i am currently training 3 engravers, but will be they be done before the insane mandates began (his throne room is opulent), or can he not make insane mandates?

Kings/Queens don't make mandates, as far as I know, mine have never made any at least. :D

Do you have any artifact furniture? I pleased a King and his whole entourage in the same room with one artifact chest. Unfortunately he just got pissed about everyone having a tomb as good as he did. Everyone else was ecstatic.

Funny story. See I have already played the third year of my fortress. The first time my computer crashed in early autumn. Leaving me to start over at early winter year 2. During that time i got 2 artifacts a cabinet, and a armor stand, these two items made the room royal with the inclusion of a elephant cage. But in this time around my first artifact happened on the same day, only it was bin, not a cabinet, wtf!!

Artifacts are completely random.

Not technically, not in this sense - if you did 100% everything the same, clicking at the same junctures exactly as you did the first time, you'd generate the same identical fortress, down to the names of the identical artifacts - ya, good luck with that.

If the same dwarf got the mood twice in a row in a large fortress, that's unusual enough in itself.

Smooth/engrave the adamantine you've mined out already and put his crap down there.  I converted my adamantine area into a King's chamber, it was fast and easy.  It was all going to work out, too, until he got burned to death after a mining "accident".

Hmm, I just give my royals a big room full of engraved floors and walls.  Oh yeah, and I add in gear assemblies if those don't work (I do have a maximum cluttered mechanic's workshop, after all).

I stuck my King in a cage and sold him to the Elves.

I wonder how the game will deal with that.

That is the most dwarven method I've heard of to dispose of nobles. I am torn between applauding and burning the elven-loving traitor.
