My new creatures keep burning to death.
« on: May 09, 2009, 10:16:13 pm »

I'm trying to make a sort of a "flaming juggernaut" that will basically kill and burn entire towns to ashes.

The killing part is easy enough, but I'm having problems with the burning part.

It has the [FIREIMMUNE] tag, but no matter what combination of [HOMEOTHERM] , [HEATDAM_POINT],[IGNITE_POINT], and [FIXED_TEMP] I try, the guy burns to a crisp in 2 rounds.

I even tried to copy the code for spirits of fire in, because they already have a constant temperature of 25000. Same effect.

Is there something I'm missing? It is possible that Adventure Mode uses some extra mechanics in terms of burning?

You have to remove the [STANDARD_FLESH] tag probably.

Code: [Select]
Works now.

EDIT3: When the fixed temp and homeotherm was around 15000, the character didn't burn to death. It didn't do anything to other creatures(evaporated lakes though). I upped the temperature and now I'm burning to death again :S

Maybe the heatdamage and ignite point are above the maximum values.  I don't know what the maximum values are, but them being above it could trigger some odd behavior like what you are experiencing I imagine.

Try lowering them to 50,000 instead of 5,000,000.  I don't think anything comes anywhere near the 50,000 even, so a heatdam point in the millions is probably overkill anyway.

that creature is gunna pwn everything it touches, speed 4000? Orcs are 800 and they are pretty fast compared to the average dwarf. Also (correct me if i'm wrong) it looks like it is possible to capture one of those and make it a pet.

Just an FYI, [SPEED:4000] will make it 1/4 of the speed of regular creatures.

The closer to 0 speed is, the faster they are.

In the raws, the higher the speed is, the slower it goes.(I think)

Also, having a pet "this" would be awesome.

Heatdam point and ignite point are definitely above the maximum temperatures.

Just take them out altogether, you don't need them with FIXED_TEMP.

You can probably take out HOMEOTHERM, too.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Why does it have [MUNDANE]?  I have never in my life seen a real infernal.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone. It seems that removing STANDARD_FLESH and putting in a FIXED_TEMP did the trick.

I'm trying to see if I can melt my enemies by standing next to them now.

I had some of the extra tags because I used another creature as reference.

I'm able to set people on fire when they stand near me, which is pretty cool.

I remember seeing something along the lines of "The melted iron sword kills human guard" back when I was dying instantly. Anyone know how to cause this phenomenon?

You could try this:  Go into a human town and drop all your iron items.  Save and quit.  Change the melting point of iron in the raws to some number lower than what the temp of the area is (0 just to make things easy).  Reload and see what happens.

I was able to turn dropped iron items into molten iron by sleeping on them. Then I could turn them into vapor by trying to pick it up (any other item picked up incinerates into nothing).

Any suggestions as to how I could make the entire process happen without sleeping?

It probably just takes a long time for the temperature to change enough for it to melt through the iron's SPEC_HEAT(which resists temperature change).  Sleeping just speeds up the process.  If you can somehow get ahold of some gold or silver that should melt much faster.  Copper should melt faster too, but not by a whole lot.
