burning corpses
« on: May 09, 2009, 02:46:07 am »

Ok, recently I killed my cats via Catsplosion and wondered whether or not the corpses would be dangerous to my dwarfs to dispose of.

I think it'd be better to just throw him in a pit.
By pit I mean "ledge designated as pit some 30 levels above the ground water magma" and that would,as they say be the end of that.
Unless a sword/axedwarf gets to 'em.. then it's rhesus pieces...

well the only things exuding smoke in the fort ATM is some meat I had gotten to the dump pile (near the mason workshop, I had lots of stone dumped there).

another question is will the corpses rot away?

They'll rot away to bones, yes.  If they're outside, the bones will rot away too.

You can check whether they're !!on fire!! by 'k'-ing over them.  If they're not on fire, they should be safe to handle.

I love how non-obvious Dwarf Fortress can be sometimes.

Well, you never know what that hoary marmot nearby might do :(

There are three things I know about dwarves:
1. They've got beards. Even the women.
2. They're short. Especially the women.
3. They're Scottish.

all dwarves were clearly traumatized in the cradle by stuffed animals.

Anyway...

semi-related question - I read that Fire Imps, when butchered, produce that wonderful flaming fat (these are my first kills, as opposed to walling them off and ignoring them).  As animal product values go, they're a value x10, on a par with GCS, trolls and unicorns.

Is there a "best way" to deal with butchering the carcass, other than choosing a sacrificial butcher and vaguely hoping they'll make it out alive? (Anything I could do with a waterfall???)

I was going to build a temporary butchery where it could be torn down and the ever-burning fat sealed off afterwards.  Any other suggestions?

We really  need a good way to set stuff on fire without homotherm 40:000 and/or magma.

I already tryed a imp AND a dragon pit (At the button there is a dragon/imp surrounded by forticivations and stuff. However they never "fire" -_-

Fire imp fat, in my experience, doesn't burn every single time. I've butchered imp corpses, and these are the results I've had: It boils away or it doesn't burn and gets rendered
