just for fun, try adding [CAN_STONE] to the crossbow bolts entry.  At very least, it'll let you make them out of obsidian.(horrible waste of obsidian, though.  Probably wood, too.)

I tried that once, it generated an error in errorlog.txt (I didn't actually test to see if it still made them in game).

This doesn't work, the option to make the bolts never appears for me.

Can't you just do this?

Out of curiosity, why do you want to make bolts out of glass? Stone is much more abundant, typically clogs the map (what with how fast miners get to legendary and all), and overall makes more sense then glass...which you might find some fey dwarf demanding. ...

This is an idea I thought up for my particular glass fortress challenge, where I have no stone (do not break ground).  Besides, glass is used for sharp objects in real life, and you can use it in DF for trap weapons, so why not simple glass spikes to launch at the enemy?

Knapping (the real world skill to make objects out of obsidian/flint/chert/basalt/jasper/quartzite/other stone) can be used easily on glass (in fact it is easier to get colored glass to practice on than it is to find a knapable stone (in the real world)), so you should be able to make glass arrow heads (but then Flint/chert/etc should all have [SHARP]). Yes I have bolt reactions using [SHARP] stone and wood (just like the stone sword) in my games. For more info read the stone tools article on wikipedia.

I assume you mean satire.  Also, I fail to see how that stands as satire of a request for a new process.
