From the journal of Fori.
   Blimey, more immigrants? All these new mouths to feed are keeping me busy at the fields. I haven’t had as much time to devote to my brewery as I would have liked. Our food stocks aren’t what I would have liked already, ever since that fire burnt down my fields above ground. Still, I can’t complain really, we got some fresh seeds from the elves that I’m looking forward to planting. I’ll get some crops growing in no time. And I look forward to trying my hand at brewing some of the surface plants, rather than just more Dwarven beer and ale.

   Speaking of those elves, is it just me, or does it seem that every one of those tree hugging, pointy eared pansies have one of their beloved trees stuck where the sun doesn’t shine? I can’t stand listening to their haughty, arrogant, holier-than-thou speech, so blasted flowery and wordy, and dripping with contempt. They won’t just come out and say what they want, but have to dance around the subject and try to be subtle about it. Still, credit where credit is due, they can brew a darn fine wine. But I could do better, I wager. Just wait till those crops crow, and I’ll brew a drink so strong that it would grow beards on even those bare elf faces.

   I wonder if it’s these elves that caused Zerris’ strange worry. I’m concerned about him. He spoke about our defenses, as if he expected a siege or something. He then grabbed one of the barrels of dwarven wine and locked himself in his office. Well, if a siege is coming, I’ll make sure that starvation won’t be our enemy. Nor soberness for that matter.

Heh, I wonder what an elf would be like drunk. I might spike their water while they're here, just to find out.

Journal of Metal Militia:
I haven't really been into Journals before but lately I've been troubled and find that writing down my thoughts helps.
I caught the founding 7 talking in hushed voices, something about goblins and strengthening the defences was all I managed to get when I was noticed and asked my business.
I blabed something about a request for some one to haul some of the refuse from the butchers shop as the smell getting unbarable.
Luckily they bought my excuse and I scampered back to the kitchen.
What I overheard has troubeled me but if it does come to a fight I wont hesetate to request to join the militia, I promised myself I wouldn't fight again, not after last time, but I miss sinking a blade into goblin flesh.
Anyway I don't want to get carried away, thats all for now.

Journal of Zerris Lashedwrung Slate 16, 203

After several false starts we've managed to design a large forge complex for Labs and his fellow smiths. If all works well then we will have lava fueled forges and smelters with a massive stock pile for all of them.

I've also designated the Mayoral and Captain chambers to be created. The first of the middle class rooms.

Journal of Zerris Lashedwrung Felsite 20, 203

I've moved into my new office and quarters. Captain Pete's are still under construction as is the Forge complex. More and more are moving into the Residental district. And out of the cramped chamber and barracks on the first floor.

Journal of Zerris Lashedwrung Felsite 21, 203

One tin item has been mandated for creation today. So I placed a work order for a tin bucket. Question is do we have tin?

He isn't as bad when u get to know him. he just needs to learn to leave those imps alone or that is going to be the death of him. hmm i would really like a pet lizard. or somehting along that line maybe a dog.

Fori’s Journal, addendum to the previous entry.

   Does the weakness of the elves know no boundaries? It was just a little bit of alcohol into one’s canteen, and what does he do after he takes a drink? He passes out! Out like an extinguished flame! I knew elves had weak livers, but this is ridiculous. Such a small amount of alcohol wouldn’t have even been noticed by a dwarf! Even the elf mimicker Nivm could handle much stronger drinks.

Oi. I don’t get where these elves come of thinking they’re better than us. You lot come back when you can stomach a proper pint or two, then we’ll see. In the meanwhile, I need to make sure that Militial doesn’t cook all the seeds.

Anyway, I hope that elf doesn’t sober up anytime soon. He’ll probably realize then that I took his dagger then.

Great storytelling so far!

I love how Jeffers builds cage traps everywhere that often inadvertently catch dwarves in them. :D Also how when they do, he doesn't make much of an effort to let them go.

So depending on what kind of dwarf you want you can have one named after you..

FYI, Pete's full name is Captain Sheriff Farmer Pete Fightmaster.

Can I start Team Fightmaster?

I'd like to recruit a crossbowlord, axelord, swordlord, and spearlord.

Respectively, they should be named

I appear to have missed a bit. I haven't played in a swamp before, but I expected the rock would still have goodies. Oh well.
Also, I still can't view those interactive maps. Do they use Java or Flash? Any idea why they wont show?

4th of Limestone, 202 at Soothedcrafts;
  Pete asked me today if he could have some milk quartz set into his axe. I told him we didn't have any milk quartz, he ignored me and said he'd pick it up when it was done.
  It also turns out they will be making a place for all the trash laying around. It's about time too.

 11th of Opal, 202 at Soothedcrafts;
  We struck milk quartz today! Perhaps Pete had one of those dreams I heard about, and thought it to be real. I got to work on the crystal immediatly as the rose quartz ran out far too quickly. Pete will have his axe back soon enough.

 9th of Obsidian, 202 at Soothedcrafts;
  I spotted a baby running around today, tried to grab one of the gem set finished works. Luckily I got there in time to shoo it off. Shortly later, I saw another one of them. Where are they all coming from?!

 9th of Slate, 203 at Soothedcrafts;
  Today I took a job working on the road to get outside. There just don't seem to be enough gems to do anything...I would prefer to be mining, but I wanted to get out. I noticed that a large double wall and moat seem to have been made while I was inside. I bet it was another one of those dreams, such large and time consuming defenses can't be explained otherwise. Perhaps I should come out more often, the frog-song is nice.
  I also got a look at some elves today, and I can see why everyone says I dress like one! The cut is almost exactly the same! I am going to see if the clothier can change the cut of my clothes, just a little.
  I also noticed during the past few months that some old feeling has taken us. Like something special is now possible.

 20th of Felsite, 203
  I moved into the new residential district today. My room is larger and has a bit more in it. But what really catches me are the walls and floor of stone. Gem bearing stone. I once again have the urge to just start digging, and have my own private shaft to great treasure. Perhaps when I have time...and permission. There is too much to do now.

That one line in the second to last entry is a note about artifacts now being possible. The note on frogs is almost asking for a pet frog. He will actually ask later. Right now it can only come up as a gift from someone else, but I guess the bird will come first.

Imagine a cool peice of sky-blue and milk-white marble about 3cm by 2cm and by 0.5cm, containing a tiny 2mm malacolite crystal. Now imagine the miles of metamorphic rock it's embedded in that no pick or chisel will ever touch. Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.

Labs' journal entry 7:
       Today I went to see Nivm in his new room. I brought a few drinks of rum and he seemed to hold his alcohol very well. Nivm is now finally beginning to fit in, I don't see him wearing elven clothes anymore and he has begun to practice more dwarven coustoms. Apperently he, like me, likes animals (big freikin suprise). My only elven quality is beginning to surface now that I'm out of the mountainhome. On a positive note a new group of forging and smelting equipment has been built and I'm sure this will increase productivity.
                  End of entry.

Journal of Zerris Lashedwrung 5th Hematite, 203

The Four new recruits are now wrestlers. And I have transfered them to the Fortress Guard. Any dwarf goes insane and they will be detained in the cages that have been set aside for that purpose.

Labs' Assistant Metalcrafter who'd graduated to Metalsmith has starting talking in gibberish. She has been pacing about the Village in an erractic manner. I've informed Pete to keep an eye on her and make sure she doesn't hurt herself or others.

Labs came into my office later and informed me that she'd thrown everyone out of the forges and has been demanding several copper bars. Once she got the needed copper bars she began constructing something at an almost insane pace.

Journal of Zerris Lashedwrung 7th Hematite, 203

I've ordered the building of a second forge while waiting for the Insane Metalsmith to finish her work. This should double the amount forged when she's done.

Journal of Zerris Lashedwrung 9th Hematite, 203

She has finished the item. It is an artifact quality earring She's now a Legendary Metalcrafter now.

Quote
Kudustraz Unnos Umid, "Princeteeth the Hooves of Falling", a Copper Earring.

This is a Copper earring. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is studded with Copper. This object menaces with spikes of Copper.

Basic Value: 7200

Also the Human Caravan and Guild Representative arrived today. They supplied us with piles upon piles of the wood we'd requested last year. More booze and food than we could hope to afford. The humans definitely understand good trading practices.

They however had no tin. I really do not want Labs or any of the smiths to get thrown into jail. The hunt for tin continues.

Journal of Zerris Lashedwrung 23th Hematite, 203

We were attacked by goblins today one snatched a baby with lots of marksgobbs as backup. They got away with one of the babies and killed one of the gem cutters that worked with Nivm. One of our champions perished today as well in fighting off the goblin raiders. Four of which survived to flee. And the rest were slaughtered. Once the bodies and loot is retrieved I've ordered the drawbridge to be raised once the humans leave.

Journal of Zerris Lashedwrung 9th Malachite, 203

With the over abundance of rooms the barracks has been removed. And the Kennels finally set up. I've ordered the dogs to be trained for war. The humans are finally on their way out of the fortress. Thus I will be ordering everyone inside then sealing the drawbridge from the rest of the swamp.

Journal of Zerris Lashedwrung 12th Malachite, 203

The humans declared they are leaving but are sure taking their time in getting out of the fort above the village. The first war dog was trained today. I've assigned it to Pete, it should help him do his job even more effectively.

Journal of Zerris Lashedwrung 14th Malachite, 203

The second wardog has been trained and assigned to be my bodyguard. I plan for each of the Founding Seven to get a wardog to protect them. Then the rest will be tied out by the gate.

Journal of Zerris Lashedwrung 15th Malachite, 203

They have FINALLY left. The Drawbridge closed as soon as the last human passed over it. Lets see those damned gobblins get in now!

My recruits?

Where are they all coming from?!

You see, when a boy dwarf and a girl dwarf love eachother VERY much, the male sends out spores to infest a hostess, whom his newborn child will burst out of in a hail of gore.

Ex: Chest Bursters.

Yes Barbarossa those for Recruits are in the Fortress Guard with Pete. Now that we have both replacement woodcutters and carpenters. I like training them in hand to hand first.. Helps prevent training accidents later on.
