The third year anniversary of the founding of Soothedcrafts began with a large festival. Held in the dinning room. I can't wait however until more of the stone from the residential district is complete. Then the true dining hall with rows and rose of seats can be completed. As well as statues made for the King and of those who have worked to make this Hamlet such a success until this point.
However strange dreams interrupted my sleep, I saw the spirit of Dastot Blueconstruct the only one to have died in this swamp standing atop the completed battlements of Soothedcraft. Following her gaze I saw a vast horde of goblins trying to break through the vast defenses that protected the fortress. In the distancing however I could see the ruins of the Mountain home in flames with black smoke rising from the dead.
She then spoke and I record her words here as I can not get them out of my mind otherwise.
"I do not blame you or any who live with in Soothedcraft for my death. I however do bring you a warning. Before this day the power of the Guardian has shielded you from the voices of the ancestors. However time is drawing close to when the Guaridan's power will not be enough to save our people from extinction."
She then turned looking me straight in the eye as she continued. "The enemy grows stronger as madness begins spread and consume those who you have left behind. Soon very soon, the Goblins will destroy them. And this, small swamp shall be all that is left. Make it's walls strong, for those who will see refuge here."
The words will not leave my mind. And I have shared part of the vision with the rest of the Founding Seven. Only however that we must make our home as strong as possible to withstand Goblin attack. I have not told them why I am so determined nor that it came from a dream, and of course no mention at all of this Guardian. The rest is still too terrible to relate, and I have been drowning it mostly with as much wine as I can drink. One question remains however who or what is the Guardian and why do i get the feeling it calls this swamp home.

The elven caravan arrived today just as we finished filling the moat too. Turtles and toads seem happy now to make it their home. I've again ordered the sail of mechanisms as well as all the crafts we currently have.
We bought out nearly ALL their cloth and sold them all our crafts and a few mechanisms. I also gave them a few mechanisms for free as a show of good will. The elves seem estatic with the trade. Sadly they had no animals for sale this time. So again no bird for Labs, I sent a message to let him know.
While the Elves are panties of the worst sort they are a good source of information on possible threats. At least so long as we out smart them and keep them extremely happy. Like the dwarven caravan before them, they were quite at ease with the guards we have protecting the trade depot. And the stone walls and moat that prevent any direct attack on us. Though the inner half of the wall isn't as good looking ast the outer half since we are using rough stone for the inner layer.
One good thing to note is that the Kitchens are up, and the Miller Metal Militia seems quite content cooking simple meals in there.

Today Pete made his own masterpiece. A bed that would be the envy of all who possess it. He truely is a master carpenter when not doing his duties as sheriff. Giltauthor seems to have taken to being Ascubis's assistant quite well. He was spotted paving a section of the road from the drawbridge to the entrance and trade depot today.
The construction and smelting of metal is constantly being slowed down due to the constant need to make fuel. Labs sent in a request to begin escavations toward the magma vent in order to build magma fuelled forges. I barely glanced at it before using one of my new 'Approved' stamps and forwarding a copy to Jeffers to begin designing the sysem that will keep the forges fed with magma and our inhabitants safe. I have no doubt he'll come up with something.

A new wave of migrants arrived today. Thank goodness we made the residental district. All we need is to finish making the beds and they can move down there with the rest of us. We now have a population of fifty-seven dwarves.

Our first elections were today and I was elected the first Mayor of Soothedcraft and Pete was promoted to Captain of the Fortress guard. A new squad of Peasants were drafted into the military as soon as they arrived. I'm thinking that they will become marksdwarves or Fortress Guard as soon as I figure out the paperwork for it. (How do I make Fortress Guard?)
