Journal of Zerris Lashedwrung 22th Malachite, 203

Jeffers and Hamster had a baby boy today. Hopefully he will grow up with us and not get snatched by the goblins that keep wandering by the Fort and Village. It is indeed a good thing that I ordered the drawbridge raised for the rest of summer.

Journal of Zerris Lashedwrung 26th Malachite, 203

I've gotten a report that some one is injured and have ordered the drawbridge lowered. So that the person can recieve water. I've also had two wardogs chained just inside the gate and one assigned to Hamster to protect her and her baby and one assigned to Jeffers as well.

Journal of Zerris Lashedwrung 5th Galena, 203

Our hunter died today though no one is quite sure just HOW he got injured. Both Labs and Ascubis were issued their wardogs today. I've set up several unused beds in a side room incase of other injuries.

Journal of Zerris Lashedwrung 10th Galena, 203

One of our Millers bled to death just what the hell is killing our villagers? I think i've discovered the reason... SOME IDIOT set off another swamp fire!!!!! I ordered everyone inside and the drawbridge raised.

Journal of Zerris Lashedwrung 15th Galena, 203

The rains started and extinquished the fire before it got too close to the four. An Investigation has been started by the Fortress Guard to find out WHO set off the Imp this time. Though good news is the Imp is dead. I've also taken up engraving as something to do besides all my damned paperwork

Journal of Zerris Lashedwrung 17th Galena, 203

I've assigned a Wardog to Nivm. Hopefully it will help keep him from getting killed. On an interesting note however he seems to have taken a dislike to elven clothing. He's becoming more and more a true dwarf. I've also assigned one to protect Fori as well. I've also been re-elected as Mayor of Soothedcraft much to my delight though it only tempers the loss of two friends.

Journal of Zerris Lashedwrung 20th Galena, 203

We've found out what happened. Olin Soaredpaddled, our late hunter, killed all four of the imps. Along with two alligators during the time he was here. He'd appeared after the first swamp fire and took it upon himself to rid us of the imp threat. And he did so at the cost of his both his life and the life of Zefon Bearwires. The last imp it seems fought back as Olin proceeded to eliminate it. And Zefon died attempting to rescue Olin and bring his flaming body back to the Village for medical aid. The flames killed both.

Both are buried with full honors in the Memorial Hallway just outside the current location of the Forges. May they both rest in peace and enjoy the wines of Heaven.

From the Jornal of Metal Militia:
when you work in the kitchens your well informed from the haulers whoes jobs take them everywere around the fortress...after a small bribe of course, everyone has there price.
Aparently two dwarfs have died from forest fires, I atended the funeral as I had traveled to the fort with the Olin the hunter. Zefon had tried to bring him back for medical aid and for that he is a hero in my tombs.
Fori came down to the kitchens inquering wether I'd used all the seeds up. I assured her that I tried to use them as little as possible and that she should check the stockpiles if she wanted to get an idea of how many are left.
Which remindes me, I need to ask Zerris if I can get some one to render some fat to tallow, this will mean I have got more ingredints to work with and can keep the use of seeds to a minimum

(((Metal Millitia, Fori is female, just so you know)))

From the journal of Fori

I might have misjudged Nivm. It may be that he simply didn’t realize that his clothing matched the elves. After the elf merchants left, I noticed that his wardrobe had changed subtly. Also, I saw him sharing a couple pints of dwarven rum with Labs earlier, and enjoying it too. His liver is dwarf at least! Unfortunately, or otherwise, I’m afraid his reputation of an elf mimicker might stick. Heh, the elves would be a lot more tolerable and likable if they were more like Nivm.

But in sadder news, those thrice cursed goblins showed up again. One of the blasted greenskins made off with one of the fort’s children! I’m beginning to see Jeffer’s obsession with traps. We should make sure this tradgety doesn’t happen again. In the meanwhile, all I can do is open the booze stockpiles to the grieving parents, so they can drown their sorrows, if for a short while.

I’m also not going to go around unarmed anymore. The wardog is nice, but I want to be able to contribute to my own survival. I think I’ll go pester Labs and his apprentices to forge me a weapon. Maybe a good warhammer. I’m strong enough, and I use a large wooden sledge all the time to open up barrels in my brewery. But I swear, if I meet any more of those baby stealing vermin, I’ll cave their skull in and brew their blood into a tribute to Armok. Even if I have to do it with my bare hands.

journal:2 or so babies have been kidnapped by those damned green skins. if only i had a sword i could have saved the tiny dwarfs. we also lost 2 dwarfs to a swamp fire. those damned imps. it was a tragedy losing the dwarf who killed off the last of them and an unfortunate soul who got caught out side. i wish Giltauthor completes his training so i can actually do sometihng to help protect the fortress. we also lost a soldier today. i think it would be save to say some catapults could and would help protect us alittle better. and some people controllnig them.

@ Barbarossa- Yeah, dwarf birth does seem kinda like that...

 22th of Felsite, 203 at Soothedcrafts;
  Labs came into my new room today with a couple of quarts and a warm greeting. At first I thought he was trying to get something from me, but the fact that I didn't have anything to offer other than what he could just ask for (as one of the founding seven) and the drink smoothed that over. We spoke for a little while and the conversation eventually came to pets and the lack of them. He talked about the bird he had asked for, and that they would be attempting to catch one soon because none had come in trade. I told him about wanting a frog for its song, or perhaps some other water creature. He also spoke of some crazy mandate that requires tin. Something I know we don't have. Even worse, a death penalty for failure has been tacked onto it. I expressed my feelings on the matter...I need to get mining again.

 5th of Hematite, 203 at Soothedcrafts;
  Yesterday I finally asked for a pet frog. From talking to Labs a knew that I would have to wait, but now I am on the list, so there wont be more people in front of me.
  Today in the hall a metalsmith ran up to me for a moment, jabbering about some wonderful jibberish. She seemed ecstatic with whatever was in her head, and that odd good feeling a got a bit back was flowing from her. Turns out she immediately went and claimed a forge, then began demanding things...I hope something good comes of it.

 24th of Hematite, 203 at Soothedcrafts;
  Apparently one of the babies was taken by a goblin yesterday. I find that although I should be shocked and unhappy about this, I find no feelings on the matter. I only saw what might have been the kid once, and then it was more like a disaster ready to strike rather than something to treasure...

 15th of Galena, 203 at Soothedcrafts;
  There have been two deaths and an injury as a result of some fire imps up above. So, being as everyone knows me as The Imp Taunter, I was the first one interrogated by the new guard. Luckily, I had a pickaxe with me, so the interruption didn't last too long. Only the new guys were intimidated though, our captain looked more like he knew, and was just doing this to make people stop talking. I thanked him later.

 17th of Galena, 203 at Soothedcrafts;
  A dog! I have been assigned a war dog! And I'm not even part of the Founding Seven. After working with him a bit, I am amazed at how well they follow commands. I tell him to stay at the door; he stays. I tell him to look menacing at the door; he outdoes himself with a wonderful imitation of a hungry wolf.
  Because of the dog, I have once again voted for Zerris as mayor. I reminded him about the pet acquisition list, however I am not sure he heard. Many dwarfs were talking.

Imagine a cool peice of sky-blue and milk-white marble about 3cm by 2cm and by 0.5cm, containing a tiny 2mm malacolite crystal. Now imagine the miles of metamorphic rock it's embedded in that no pick or chisel will ever touch. Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.

OOC: Yes I have heard about the pet list.. however.. its proving hard to do as the dwarves refuse to make the animal traps needed.

What are you trying to make them out of? I thought a couple cages would have been quick from wood or metal.

an easy way to stop dwarfs from eating the animals is to examine the animal trap and then forbid the animal inside but not the trap it self, then the animal trainers can still drag the cage to the kennel and train whilst stopping dwafs from eating whats inside
