« on: May 06, 2009, 04:32:02 pm »

ive noticed people wishing to be able to fill in areas...

Req75, REWALL, Completed: Option to re-wall or fill in channels, using some stone.

i really hope this isnt simply the current "build wall" function.

fount this in dev notes...

love, jakkarra

No doubt.  Hopefully it will make that task easier, instead of the micro-manage hell it is now.

Why would you want to refill an area?

??? - are you serious?

Because you made a mistake?
Because your plans changed?
Because you revealed something you didn't expect?
Because you changed your mind about something?
Because your moat needs re-designing?

Because moments or years later, you want that area again.

Actually, I was serious, because I plan my forts with graph paper in geometry class and memorize exactly where every river, chasm, underground pool, etc, beforehand and design accordingly.

You realize that a single Noble Hero could screw up EVERYTHING, right?

And that we're now waiting for you to show us, show us all.

And when you build your fortress walls from the bones of skeletal elephants, slain my weapons forged from melted goblin plunder, fed on cattle that graze on grass that blinks.  Then, you will know dwarfdom.

I did that when I first started playing,(of course I didn't really know the awesomeness of the game at that point) All of those fortresses died horrible, magma-y deaths

I'm kind of locked onto the idea that I MUST SUCCEED!!! maybe I'll try to play a design-less game, because there is no winning in DF, only glorious destruction and tantrum spirals... and magma

Just remember, the end NEVER justifies the means when there is no end but death!

After all, why bother making perfect fortress #3054 when you could be making a unique, uber deathtrap which allows you to laugh manically all day long!  :D

Back in the 2d version, you could not build walls at all; dug areas and channels were permanent.

Seems like quite an improvement now, eh?

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

I've never played the 2d version, (I only recently started playing) so I wouldn't know. Yes, I know, blasphemy. What's the most recent 2d version?

Ah - so the question you should have asked was "Why would I want to refill an area?"

And the answer would have been - you wouldn't.  Apparently.

Except for finding the unexpected.  Unless you use Reveal first.

I plan what I can, and adapt/adopt to the landscape as I uncover it.  Different people play differently.

That's why.

And regardless of how you play, it's hard to believe you didn't realize not everyone is like you.  Learn it now, it'll save you headaches later.

Well, I would want that feature quite badly.  I had... "accidentally" channeled a passage from an aquifier to the ocean, and left my FPS in the dust.  I had to abandon the fort.
