Tropico: Because Sniper Joe Too Lazy To Finish His Topic

Quote from: Servant Corps
Fellow Communist Party members and USSR diplomats.  How many of you are concerned about the problem of the poverty of our great nation, which has been caused by a variety of factors, including economic exploitation of the United States and the capitalistic ruling class, and the lack of a sound vision?  It is a serious situation that I am also concerned about. In fact, I have studied this subject thoroughly and have some solutions that I will propose to you right now.  One way to solve the problem of the poverty of our great nation is to invest in the infrastructre of farming, to ensure the best welfare of all farmers.  Doing that will make the nation of Islari richer in the long term, making us into the breadbasket of the Second World.  I am sure you will all agree that this is a start.  Another way to solve this problem is to start stricter regulations of the capitalistic ruling class, by means of a controlled economy, run by members of the Communist Party.  This will then prevent the economic exploitation and ineffiencies that has plagued Islari since its days of independence.  Finally, you can set up a task force that is controlled by the Communist Party and the President to root out all corruption within all ranks of Islari.  You will be surprised how such an action will protect Islari from the damaging effect of corruption, which causes people to look out for their own greedy self-interests as opposed to the interests of the nation as a whole.  In conclusion, you have seen effective ways to solve this serious problem.  Does anyone have questions?

Good. All three solutions are hereby implemented.

Map of Islari, 1950

Quote from: Servant Corps
The first act of the anti-corruption task force is to establish a "Special Building Permit", that must be issued after completling a successful internal audit of all proposed building projects. This will cut down on costs heavily, by cracking down on those seeking to plunder the treasury of Islari.

Domesitic Affairs

Quote from: Servant Corps
One of our Corn Farms has been switched over to growing Tobbaco. A new project for building a Coffee Farm has also been commissioned, which will begin when we conduct the necessary aduits. Both projects are "cash crops", which are luxuries that more developed countries enjoy. The money we get from these "cash crops" will then be reinvested into the prosperity of Islari.

This will be updated at the exact same pace that Sniper Joe's topic will be updated. Which will be very slow. Of course. Considering how many LPs there are (I, for one, am more willing to focus on LPing Oasis and finishing Conflict and The General), I don't really expect for this one to take off. However, if I can pressure Sniper Joe to update either of his two LPs, I have succeded. And so has the People's Republic of Islari.

Okay, Bay12Games, before we procede, I got a couple of things to deal with.
1) Three cities originally named by the Reactionary Random Name Generator. Rename them.
2) There is some ancient ruins on the other side of the island. Our bad relations with the Yanquis mean that tourism won't really be profitable, at least unless you really, really wish to attract Slobs. But if you really want that ancient ruins to be useful for something, we can auction off artificats from the ancient ruins, and the profits can be sent to my Swiss Bank Account the Organization for the Promotion of the Socialist Revolution In Switzerland. (EDIT: Actually, re-reading the guide, it seems that I can only sell artificats if I had the Colonial Fort. I don't have the Fort. I only got the Ancient Mayan-Style Pyramid. So, the only thing I can use that Pyramid for is Tourism.)

3) Our relationship with the USSR is at Perfect Harmony. We can opt for an alliance with the USSR right now, but...since our relationship is already high, what's the point? We may have to anyway if the USA is itching for an invasion. But do you think we should do so now?
4) I am considering a policy to postpone elections indefiently. The people of Islari do not really need elections, they need economic development, and besides, the Communist Party of Islari is enlightened enough to run this country. We will need to rely on the People's Army to keep support.
5) Because of our enlightened rule, and the need to accomplish quick growth of our treasury in order to establish a Socialist Utopia, I am considering reducing all wages to Farmers to $0, thereby allowing for more money to be devoted to the treasury, which will then be used to further Islari's prosperity and welfare. The marketplace of of Islari give out free food rations, and the farmers are great at building their own houses, so they will be content with the fact that their wages will be redirected to serve Islari instead of selfish interests.
6) There is an in-game exploit can use to funnel money from my treasury directly to the Organization for the Promotion of the Socialist Revolution In Switzerland. It should be pretty obivous if you played Tropico a lot, but if not, I have a question, should we use it? The exploit isn't, ahem, free, you still have to waste a ton of cash, but if I use the exploit, then I will not need to build Capitalistic Banks and hire Capitalistic Bankers to funnel money to the Organization. It is because I don't like Capitalism that I am willing to consider exploits.

Each Bay12Gamer are allowed to choose one Faction to run. First come, first serve.

Didn't see this until now.  You're going to die.  Policy suggestions:

2) Sell all the artifacts you want.  Such vestiges of an ancient past destroyed by our unfortunately capitalist invader forebears mars the island with it presence.  If eggheads and plutocrats are willing to pay for them, no reason we can't scam them for musty trinkets.

3) We have every reason to solidify a military partnership with our glorious Soviet patrons.

5) Humans are humans, and unless you are also willing to provide free entertainment, the people will need at least some walking around money.

6) No exploits in LPs unless it's for a hilarious outtake.  Speaking of which, your palace and diplomatic office are going all M.C. Escher in those screenshots.

It's Islari. I guess I'm too lazy to fix the opening newspaper article.

Ooh, tropico. Again.
Ok, policies:
1) Don't care
2) No tourism. Don't sell them yet, as there is no such thing as a free lunch and you are not stable yet.
3) Do it. Free money + no USA worries.
4) Why not? However, an armoury should be your... fourth worry. After religion, entertainment, and health care. After armoury comes housing.
5) I've tried it. The ungrateful rats won't accept it. They go rioting the instant you do it, even if everything is free.
6) I do not no what you are talking about. Just use the building permit, man. (If your 'exploit' is building, cancelling, building, it doesn't work- money is removed from your account again.)

Choosing diplomat was silly of you. You allready have max/ almost min, and you don't plan on changing that... right?
Build a church, a bar, a clinic, an armoury, two flats.
If you have enough food, activate 'food for the people'

Gah. Question #2 is invalid. I don't have the Colonial Fort, so I can't sell any artificats at all. Sorry for that.

"El Presidente, you are making a lot of enemies..."

It all started when I looked at the national budget.

It takes time for crops to grow, so I get in a national debt. It didn't help that my second Presidental Edict, after the anti-corruption act, was to establish a military alliance with the USSR. Luckily, the USSR's foriegn aid of $4,000/year bailed me out ($3000+$1000 for the military base), but I was making no profit and basically living off the welfare of the Soviet Union.

So I decided on trying to maxamize what little profit I have by cutting wages. I reduced all uneducated workers' wages to $1, and all HS people to $5. This did not go over too well with the general population, especially the Communists, who are against wage inequality. The leader of the Communist Faction became very upset at the policies, even complemenating my replacement.

Meanwhile, the wife of Commander Trifes, leader of the Militarist Faction, gave El Presidente a firm warning.

So, I rose the wages of the military to $10. However, Commander Trifes' wife is still angered because I then did a cutback of the military, from 4 palace guards to 1 palace guard. I did keep Commander Trifes as the sole military personel.

Commander Trife's wage, by the way, is a farmer. So, she's getting paid $1/month. She's nonplussed, and therefore, so is the rest of the Militarist Faction.

Meanwhile, I am regretting building THIS.

Originally, this was built as a way to provide entertainment while at the same time funnel money over to Switzerland. But it seemed people didn't like entertainment when they had to deal with other pressing needs. And there is no real way to make profit off entertainment buildings, it seems. I also can't get enough sleep because the loudspeakers in my Childhood Home screams "Vive El Presidente" every two seconds...Gah.

This Childhood Home is being used to boost my respect with the people. There is no fee to enter into the House, and I made the loudspeakers two times as loud, in order to drive the message home. But, this house is an annoying blight on civilization, and it should die in a fire.

In other news:
*I seen in the Wall Street Journal an editoral by the leader of the Capitalist Faction arguing against my regime and proving my country is anti-business. The US is giving Islari $0, so it seems the Diplomat Trait really was useless, in retrospect. Oh well. I'm demolishing the Embassy for now.
*The people have not rebelled...yet. A majority do dislike me though. A wage increase back to normal might get me back in their good graces.

Quote
(If your 'exploit' is building, cancelling, building, it doesn't work- money is removed from your account again.)
While 20% of the money is removed, 10% of that money get sent over to your Swiss Bank Account. Though maybe it did get fixed in Paradise Island. /me shrugs

Leaders:
*Xiemia Ruiz, wife of Commander Trifes, Farmer (Militarist) [semi-free slot?]
*Luke Prowler, Dockworker (Religious)
*Okenido, Teamster (Communist)
*Franco Picardo, Dockworker (Capitalist) [FREE SLOT]
*Pablo De la Rosa, Teamster (Intellecutals) [FREE SLOT]
*Claudio Verde, Farmer (Enviromentalist) [FREE SLOT]

EDIT: Okenido has been reassigned from Teamster to work in a Coffee Plantation.
EDIT2: It seems Demolishing stuff cost...money. Oh dear. I fired the diplomat though, and closed all slots, and I'll wait until the next aid infusion before I destroy that Diplomatic Ministery.
EDIT3: Commander Trifles has quit the Military. He now hangs around at El Presidente's Childhood Home, possibly getting drunk or something. There has to be a reason why SOMEBODY is going there.
