Homemade weapons
« on: May 06, 2009, 09:59:28 am »

You combine the sea urchin and the stick to create a sea urchin mace. You are now no longer unarmed.

You combine the metal bar and the stick to create a hammer.

You combine the vial of dwarven beer, the vial of alchemists fire, and the arrow to create an explosive arrow.

Discuss.

And you can't eat them, either, sadly. Even though it'd make sieges so much more fun; dwarves lining the walls, drooling and carrying sharp knives and forks, ready for the upcoming meals.

"You combine the vial of dwarven beer, the vial of alchemists fire, and the arrow to create an explosive arrow"

A rediculously heavy arrow (Plus Alchemists fire doesn't exist in Dwarf Fortress... that is a Dungeons and Dragons mixture)

The problem is getting the game to recognise improvised weaponry.

I have an idea... but I am tired... so Ill write it out a bit later.

On a side note: Urchins are smaller then you think... I wouldn't call a Urchin tied to a stick a Mace.

Adventurer skills are coming. We will be able to do DF style crafting an adventure mode eventually.

Yeah, but this way, if you embark on a place with no metals at all (impossible, I know, but...), you could make weapons like these. Pufferfish launchers for poisonous assault against gobbo seiges.

THis should be possible, you just have to assign all object certain properties and effects for combining. ie:puffer fish: [Sharp:20] or stick: [extends_reach] so that you are notaffected by puffer fish. Then once combined it asks the player to name it. Ofcourse order of combing would matter, ie: Puffer fish>combine>stick would make a puffer fish on stick whilst stick>combine>puffer fish would create a stick on a pufer fish, this would only really effect ammo combining and held things though.
Oh and when combining to a multi-item item it would ask you which part to attach to.
I would do:
Dragon cage<adamantine> >combine> Elf spine. Totally.

That's stupid.

How exactly would you manage to hold on to the sea urchin in order to attach it to the stick?

First of all, Imagine you are in the wilderness, being chased by a beach. You are completly unarmed. Then, you sea a see urchin on the end of a stick. Would you rather fight the beast with your bare hands?

Also:

The first part (tags) is a good idea, but order shouldn't really matter.

How about interacting with a table and getting ability to break up and pick up one of the legs or flat surface.

Damage increases with the quality.

You throw the +highwood table+ at the bronze colluses.
It flies off in a bloody arc!

A plain oaken table leg shouldn't do less damage than a masterfully carved one.
