I did this with an earlier fortress, ended up with ~80 Obsidian Statues.

I just realized I did it again in my current fort, this time with a Craftdwarf Workshop making Obsidian Short Swords, and three (3!) Magma Forges making Large Serrated Iron Disks.

For over a year in game....

By the time I noticed this to make my weapon traps, i had 90 Obsidian Short Swords ready, and 290 (Yes, two-hundred-ninety) disks.

My jaw dropped.

On my first fort, I didn't know that being Legendary made you work faster, I thought it only improved the quality of the goods.

So I set my mason to repeatedly make rock doors.

Pretty soon I had about 450 rock doors without noticing. =|

I've found five or so veins of Magnetite, and i know of two more at least that i haven't dug into, and i'm STILL not low on Iron.

I switched over from Wooden barrels and bins to Iron ones too, simply because I have more Iron than Wood.

a few magnetite deposits will do that... and with magma, you're set for life. (well not life, but a really really really long time)

And when you build your fortress walls from the bones of skeletal elephants, slain my weapons forged from melted goblin plunder, fed on cattle that graze on grass that blinks.  Then, you will know dwarfdom.

If only they could be fired from ballistae. :)

I have a similar surplus of iron in my current fort thanks in large part to magnetite and magma. I've got about two thousand chunks of magnetite mined out and awaiting refinement, eight hundred bars of iron, and three hundred bars of steel. I intend to turn every last drop into steel, so I'm making extensive deliberate use of workshops set to repeat.

And that's what I get for making posts just before bed.

You are correct, I tend to run small forts though, few dwarves anyway and so this problem hasn't cropped up yet. Now I've said that I'll most likely end up with 100s of doors or similar...

heh, i once left a room full of magma glass forges all set to collect sand / r and create green glass block / r

9+ legendary glassmakers and more bricks than I'd even need for my tower after forgetting about it for awhile

Actually, probably a good choice, since it makes quite a bit more value than anything you could get out of using coffers or boxxes for your dwarve's rooms when they start collecting junk.

The only things I put on repeat are drinks, lavish meals, crafts and sometimes barrels. It works.
