Flattening Downward Slopes
« on: May 05, 2009, 01:50:44 am »

Can it be done? I tried designating it as a channel. I want to turn my rough mountain side into a nice, regular row of steps (like those south american giant steps.)

Only way to get rid of a ramp is to either remove it's supporting walls or designate the up part of the ramp for removal.

by 'up part' - you mean the lower half of the ramp? :-X
You are right, though - removing the ramp (key d, z? [remove stairs / ramps]) or the walls next to it (mining around it by x/y coordinates, not z levels) will make it disappear.

I have noticed a rather mixed reaction with microcline, but what do people think of olivine?
Oh I love olivine.  I think dark green furniture makes the fortress tasteful.
Wait, what?

yeah, 'd' - remove up stairs/ramp (i forget the key), on the Up ramp.

ramps essentially only exist on the "lower" level

would building a floor over it, and then removing said floor work? preferably made from ice, so when removed it melts and dosent clutter the area.

this is the answer to all problems to do with left materials.

works on EVERY map. with ice

It's not a ramp -- its the grassy slope up the side of the mountain. The green up arrow.

For all intents and purposes the game considers it a ramp. Basically anything you can do to the ramp involves the lower portion as it is the only 'real' part of the ramp.

EDIT: Beaten by zcrhis13.
