What I did at work today.
« on: May 04, 2009, 09:34:39 pm »

I brought my laptop to work, and Embarked upon a massive Human town.
I struck the Earth in such a way that I collapsed several large buildlings and killed about half the population.

Building 1 - By far, the largest structure.  Had about half the population either in the building, or up on the roof.  I removed all of the walls on the first floor.  Behold the massive dust cloud as all three stories collapse into one.

The smoke starts to clear...  Look at all the corpses and Limestone blocks!

And the aftermath.  Dozens of dead and horribly mangled humans.  And THOUSANDS of Limestone blocks piled on each other.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Let's take a look at the casualties!

OH THE HUMANITY
Does that make me a bad person?

On to building number 2!  Some type of shrine, or something.  A seemingly pointless building.
Behold as I mine out the last support... The innocent humans standing by.

NO NOT ODDOM
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The building is collapsing, sending more Limestone blocks everywhere!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And the aftermath, a few dead humans, hundreds of blocks again everywhere.  And an unhappy miner.

And the last building, a 4 story house.  Has several humans, and tons of furniture and food inside.  Note the human archer sitting idly as I channel out the Earth from around his home..

It collapses into the cavern below!

WOOD FLIES EVERYWHERE
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And the aftermath.  Tons of logs, a bunch of equipment and food, and some corpses under said logs.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

At the end, I had about 4000 Limestone blocks, and a few hundred logs.

Next up, an Elven forest retreat.  Will post results later  :)

I'm afraid there are no buildings in a traditional elven forest retreat. You can always pave the sky though.

And I want to work where you work.

Yeah, I just figured that out, I had never embarked there before.  I settled for digging a massive 2 level hole in the ground, draining a lake into it, then dropping the Elves in there.  I'll upload the pics later, right now I'm trying to mine out a Goblin fort.

Also, I work at a bowling alley as a mechanic.  So, I'm only required to do actual work when something is broken and needs fixing.  When nothing is broken, well it's DF time.

In a usual 8 hour shift, I'll do about 1 hour of work, and 7 hours of Dwarf Fortress / TV / Movies / etc etc.

I love my job ;D

In a word, no.  Just a little imprecise.

I embarked on a Goblin fort.  My Dwarves started at the top floor of a tower.  I decided that the fastest way to get to ground level was to mine out the floor below us, and ride the roof downwards!  It's faster than stairs, anyway.

Dwarves starting to mine...

The unlucky miner chosen to mine out the last staircase.

WHUMP!  Down they go!

Well that punched some nice holes into the fort.  Killed tons of stuff too, including some of my own Miners.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I shall call that, the 'Dwarven Elevator'

None of those, sadly.

I'm a mechanic.

I'm a mechanic.

Does the bowling alley have its own miner or does it trade you the stone needed to do your job?

you just gave me the image of Aspgren in mismatched socks screaming "a vile force of darkness has arrived!" as customers enter the alley and are struck by +bowling balls+.

We trade for metal bars!

I really wish that would happen.

I have the odd urge to flood my bowling alley with magma now.  Where can I find a volcano?

You embarked at a location without any, but if you dig under the alley you might find some HFS

Funny thing about the bowling alley and Dwarf Fortress.

There's about 8 stray cats living behind the parking lot.
