The mouth, it waters.
« on: May 04, 2009, 06:19:09 pm »

For the past couple years, my computer has been running with a nVidia 8800 GTS graphics card. It's not great, but it's passable, will run most modern games without a hitch, though there are occasionally hiccups. Well, It's been a while, and it's high time to upgrade, but I don't necessarily have a lot of money on had, so, I need as much bang for the buck as I can get.

In ATI's desperation to make a dent in nVidia's sales, to say their pricing has been aggressive is an understatement.

THIS, priced at roughly 250 dollars depending where you look.

Holy shit. On a biscuit. Now all I need is the know how to install it in a laptop (notoriously hard, I'm told) and I'm all set

Before you going buying that... take a gander at this! 4770 crossfire is insane. Even without OC, its faster/roughly the same as the 4890, and nearly as good as the GTX280. Only thing it has issues with is 512mb/card makes it perform slower in games like Crysis with heavy duty textures.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

I am not a big ATI fan to be honest, but this card looks impressive...anyways, I am wondering that why is this video card so cheap? Weird.... :o

Hardware can be extremely cheap. Most of the costs is in setting up equipment and wages. They only jack up prices to make a bigger profit :P

QFT. Being able to build a computer for roughly 300-400 dollars that would have every major government organization trying to 'contact' you if you had it 6-10 years ago...
