Fired from catapults? That would have to be one hell of a shot. Given everything else that's possible I think if you were firing large cut soulgems from a catapult they would have an almost infinite range and only stop when they had hit 2 or 3 consecutive walls (basically only mountains could stop them). When all else fails, NUKE IT.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Psssh. Elven ghosts. What are they going to do?

Plant trees in your living room?

Yes, so we can cut those trees down, and anger them even more.

I can see the Elf ghosts "Possessing" trees on your map, and giving them names...

Urist Austin, Axedwarf.  A dwarf barely alive.  Gentledwarves, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first bionic dwarf. Urist Austin will be that dwarf. Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster.

Start butchering kittens!

DF cats, and especially kittens have no souls, that is clear.

Imagine, if you could destroy the soul..

Easily done.  First, you have to construct a large soul-drawbridge, and then designate a quantum soul dump where it will drop...

don't be silly. Magma is the only way to truly release the soul.

But what if one in 100 kittens had a soul? Or you could recover partial souls by melting corpses in the soulforge?

When did the fictional substance that governs our very existence as living creatures become the foundation for a new and brutal means of making money?

oh... the moment I started playing DF.

No, it was just the sarcasm and deeply hidden self-loathing we all feel.

The moment your dwarven economy kicks in.

Wow. trying to murder kittens for their souls so that I can encase them in gems and use them to bomb third world countries goblins.

This is what it feels like to be a banker.

Imagine one of the ways to defeat a HFS chamber that feeds on souls

Build a soullll channel. The souls are colored blue and you have to dig the channel through the glowing pits and suddenly it fills with souls and the chamber has a cave in and the souls start roaming the lulz map
