Perhaps not the most effective way to kill a dwarf,but for me the most amusing;give them Exceptional /Masterwork Spears and let em duke it out in civilian clothes.Winner gets to live another day,looser..just dies due to massive damage to internal organs.And tada,you´ve got another center for public amusement,the feared arena where civilians watch wild beasts,goblins and criminals (ia. immigrants) fight for their lives.
(Yes I know,it doesn´t work for nobles and dwarfs may survive it.)

I usually drown the cute little dwarves I don't want, the bodies shouldn't move too far away from the drowning chamber when flushing the room :)

Quickest way? Build an efficient drowning chamber.

By efficient I mean pump A that drains water from your main supply and fills a 1x1 room. The room should be positioned so that when the door is opened the water flood out and back into the water reservoir. Depending on your construction you can decide the best way to do this.

Just make sure that after you've recruited and drowned your dorf the water won't actually flush him or his posessions into the water supply. Shouldn't be much of a problem though.

The easiest: Build a two Z-Level room. Put a bridge on the top Z-level. Put a Stone-Fall Trap on the bottom Z-Level. Recruit your dwarf and put him on the bridge on duty. Pull a lever to retract the bridge and he'll fall 1 Z-Level down and fall unconscious for a second. That's all it takes for the Stone-Fall Trap to trigger and smoosh him dead.
