<nods>

Confirmed.

But in the current version it's known that crossbows are broken with regard to being "two-handed", so any buckler/shield with crossbows may be a waste of time.

In theory, they're lighter, and crossbows and a full load of metal bolts are VERY heavy.  But the diff in weight is less than 5% of a total load-out, weapons and armor, not much diff overall.

Go with shields.

I think buckler is a only "shield" type equip crossbow-dwarf can carry (I've seen them equip one, but not shield).

One of the toads decided to go for a swim in the moat - presumably because he could path through the moat to my dwarves. He is not charging in, just loitering in the moat.

The toad is having a nice relaxing swim.
The goblin mounted on his back, however, is drowning.

Erm, my question was never answered: How do I actually... You know, get them to put on armour?

Christ, are you dwarves or are you elves? If you think Hell has too many demons, then you kill them till the population reaches an acceptable number.

m>w>Find the military dwarf whom you want to equip > tell him what type of armor(leather, chain, or plate) and what kind of shield(Buckler or Shield).
Getting them to equip -specific- items is a different story.
