The zefies finally find a workable form of currency, as silver deposits are found in the hills near the city. Easily pressed into coins and measured by weight, it provides a simple, practical medium of exchange. The new coinage is widely accepted, and by the end of the year buisness is booming.

Nolsumunuklat and his party set off in the spring, hoping to avoid the various dangers of the wilderness. You wish him the best of luck, but his somewhat controversial mission draws little public fanfare. As the year wears on, no word is heard from him. You are uncertain whether this means his party was killed in the wilds, killed by the humans, or have been unable to send a message back.
Stozuagun and Xungbubuzka fare better. Xungbubuzka is able to find a pack of the quilled wolves, and Stozuagun is able to bait them into attacking the better-protected warriors while his spearmen flank the pack. The battle is won with few casualties, and a handful of pups are brought back to the city. Unfortunately, your people have neither the expertise nor the facilities to rear them, and most die within the year.
Your researchers are also successful, producing a somewhat crude but effective writing system and spreading it among the more intellectual members of society. They also learn a bit about caring for animals before they run out of subjects to study.

The pearl queen sails south a bit, then east past the southeastern forest. Continuing along, she finds what seems to be a small gulf fed by an enormous river, with a forest just to the west. She turns back before the waters become too shallow. She sees no sign of habitation along the coast, and no obvious unusual resources.
The year goes well at home. The city's researchers have learned much of agriculture, and some enterprising citizens have begun preparing to set up farms along the river. More excitingly, on eccentric fellow has found a way to use ground pearls to draw water uphill! It's far to expensive to be practical, but hints at exciting magical possibilities in the future. Details are still sketchy, of course, but it seems that pearls may be a valuable magical reagent.

What's more, the hunters in the forests have discovered a few plants that produce nice seasonings for their kills. These spices will make food tastier and keep the people's spirits high.

Glrk'nr listened to Stozuagun with annoyance "We need to act. You know this. A hostile neighbor cannot be allowed to remain. Nolsumunuklat was almost as good in the wilderness as Xengbubuzka. The humans must have killed him. For the sake of all of us, let me put an end to their threat."

Grlk'nr sighed. It seemed he didn't have a choice. "Very well. Take the army. Make contact with the humans and see what happened. Don't start a war, but if they're hostile ... Do whatever must be done."

"Thank you, Sir. I won't fail you." Stozuagun bowed and left, with a malevolent look in his eye that Glrk'nr was too preoccupied to spot.

While wandering through the tunnels earlier, he had found three small and shiny loose stones. He suspected that they were metallic, but there was no forge in the city to try melting them with. He wrote a message to the goblins in charge of re-learning the old ways to try to design one, and sent it off with a messenger.

He then wrote down instructions to begin construction of a library, where important knowledge could be stored for generations to come. He had a messenger give it to Romsod, the one who had been in charge of building the shrine. His back wall was getting crowded with scrolls.

When Bonnie's expedition found no one else, there was consternation among the southeasterners, who had hoped that their lost kinsmen from the Age of Ash would have survived.  But the many of the others of us were secretly delighted.  It seemed that the gods had swept the earth clean, leaving only us behind.  After so many years of conflict, that was a blessing indeed.  Inwardly delighted, we settled into a period of contentment, marred only by the naysayers who demanded a push outwards or a defensive buildup or such.

That's what I had thought, but I think when I saw "2 stone, 1 wood consumed" I must have assumed that only the resources for the library were taken out--I guess I didn't realize that my production exactly offset the cost of the waterwheel, so I fail at counting.

The streets of Antemnon are abuzz with the discovery of gold. The ancient texts spoke of such a metal as a thing of wondrous value, but simple experiments in goldworking quickly reveal it to be all but useless for any apparent practical application. A few eccentrics seem to think it has some decorative value, but for most of the people this only underscores the metal's pointlessness.

Interest in the metal grows however when Amnarchis astutely points out that the properties of gold make it ideal for a medium of exchange. Its lack of usefulness makes it unlikely to be taken out of circulation and used up, and its unique nature makes it difficult to counterfeit. Soon gold becomes the standard for making large transactions, leading to a commercial boom within the city.

Unfortunately, making business easier to carry out also has a side effect of making crime that much more convenient, too. A citizen's watch is organized and proves mostly effective at keeping crime to a minimum; however, it becomes apparent that fists and makeshift truncheons only go so far when dealing with desperate cornered criminals. With the watermill complete and grinding away to turn the tough hillside grasses into edible meal to feed the city, Ramades puts his expertise to work in the production of equipment to better defend the city and keep the peace, gathering a number of his apprentices to construct a workshop to mass-produce weapons and armor.

There was a few attempt, but most those had stopped after the first month (the closest success was when one of the chefs over did it with the newly found spices). Now with the start of a year, came the annual meeting. He was half way through his stake when his two advisors came in.

"Hi, John. It's good to see you" Said Jen. "Is there anything you want?"

"Well actually," John answer, poking at a wild potato "I was hoping you could send the boys to the west to see what's there."

Jen did not seemed very pleased with this "You want to give the Death Corp. a scout mission?"

"Yes"

She gave a sigh and left "I'll go tell them"

With his general gone, John turned over to his less favorite advisor. "So, what the hell is your job, anyway?"

"I report what the people want" Richard explained

"And?"

"Well, it seems that there are some units of leather in stock, and it could be used in place of the wool we used last used"

"And what can the leather be used for?" John asked

Alastair: That’s not enough to take any sort of siege. We’ll need to keep working hard. It bears thinking though. How long until we have to worry about our granary overflowing?
Tikhon: Not for a long while, I think. However, especially with the military facilities finishing up construction soon, we are going to have lots of different projects that will need construction  facilities.
Zefie Advisor A: We’ll have mining stuff, barracks for troops, possibly another granary, metal working shops, there are also request that we build a central market place as well.
Alastair: I can guess, you want a mechanic’s workshop built, right?
Tikhon: Yep.
Alastair: No cage traps.
Tikhon: Okay.

Alastair: As far as our military goes, what sort of weapons will our shops be able to produce?
Zefie Advisor A: I’m not actually sure. I think that we have plans for a ‘pointy stick’ device.
Zefie Advisor C: Sir, we’ll be able to build medium spears sans spearhead, along with lighter javelins. Wooden bucklers should be possible as well.
Alastair: Is that all? We’ll have to work on rediscovering metalworking soon. Very well then. The plans for this year are approved.
Tikhon: I more to adjourn.
