(You forgot to spend the wood for polearms)
The zefies, through a stroke of luck, discover a source of strange gems in the hills west of town. Pale blue diamonds, glowing with a faint inner light simply fall from the sky from time to time, and though they shatter if left on the ground for more than a few days, a quick and lucky prospector can gather a few. The zefies aren't really sure what to make of this, beyond the obvious: they're shiny.
The zefie military reorganization goes well. The results of the attack on the carnivorous plants are more mixed. The zefies' shortspears aren't that effective against plants, but in the end the immobile monsters can't stop the zefies from clearing a firebreak and burning the whole grove to the ground. The zefies scouting to the south find the headwaters of the river in a mountain range. They cross the mountains and find that the mountain range widens and continues to their east, with foothills to the west.
Back at home, things are looking up for those who want a new home. Plans for a larger, more independent outpost have been drafted and finalized, and people are beginning to volunteer for another colonization expedition.
