I'm about 99% sure what you describe is a problem related to badly implemented multicore rendering support, whatever that means. ;D

I had the same problem, right from the time I played the first game. 2 minutes with google revealed the answer, tho.

They even fixed it later. And broke it again. And then fixed it again.

Huh.  I'm actually entirely unimpressed with L4D2.

I mean, I've been playing other, mediocre zombie games since then...

...but I think I've lost my taste for fast-moving reflex zombie games.  Now I'm more a fan of get that headshot, every bullet counts games.  Oh well!

Another awsome thing about the L4D2 demo. Getting the Grenade launcher and launching errors into the hordes of zombies.

The Grenade launcher isnt supposed to be in the demo, so if you use the consle to get it, it dosent have its icon, and shoots Errors.

How many boolets (Grenades) does it hold? I assume single-shot action also?

It shoots 1 grenade at a time and holds up to 30, it takes around two or three seconds to reload. The friendly fire on it is horrible, itll take out almost half of your health if you get hit with it. Unfortunetly you cant replenish its ammo in normal ammo dumps, so 30 shots is all you get.

I just took it for a spin. Really, I prefer the old cast more than these guys. These guys are so... normal. There are some nice things like new weapons, melee weapons (which have disgustingly bad hit recognition) and some fairly interesting special infected but really... I'm glad I didn't buy this. Heck, half the time I can't even hear what everyone other than Coach says because they mumble and slur so much. The slang they use is incomprehensible for me too. Even now, I can't even tell you any interesting quotes I heard from it because well... nothing really grabbed my attention. All I know is the TF2 scout talks way too much, Leisure Suit Larry sounds like he's in a Western movie flick, the girl is inaudible and ignorable, and Coach likes to read stuff off of walls and notices.

The atmosphere is so totally different from the first L4D. Instead of fearing the zombie hordes, I actually find myself rushing headlong into them even on expert because it's so unbelievably easy, thanks to the ridiculously high drop rate ala Crash Course (which is also unbelievably easy). The music doesn't help things either, by being upbeat and funny instead of tense and forebearing. The daylight makes seeing everything way too easy, which also makes seeing all the graphical flaws really easy too. It also irks me that all the new special infected are so easy to kill, especially compared to the old ones. While a smoker and hunter can take several shotgun shells, the jockey and spitter both die to one or two. The charger is really anticlimatic as well. Dies way too easily for its size.

Case in point. How do people play L4D? They hug walls, never venture into the open unless it's clear, avoid standing in the middle of open roads, keep ears open for special infected sounds, stick together, generally be cautious. How I see the people playing L4D2 in the games I've joined? Run out into open areas, stand in the open blasting things, running up to all sorts of special infected with the melee weapons, not really caring about safety or teamwork at all other than the general "don't go too far away" rule. I guess that's what I hate most about the new game. It's just not tense any more. It's like playing Unreal Tournament.

I started looking for what made me love the first L4D: the AI director. I'm sure the AI director is at work somewhere in this new game, but it's so ignorable. so unnoticable. There's SO MUCH WEAPONS and drops everywhere that really, when in the first game if you found the tier two weapons early on you were piss happy, here it becomes something that doesn't even cross your mind as you see everything you need at every other corner. The zombies too. The zombie waves come so often and in so few numbers that I don't feel any spectacular use of the AI director at all.

TL;DR: I know a lot of you are hailing it as awesome and fun and maybe it is but I would not be getting this. Even if this came out before the original L4D, I still wouldn't have gotten this. Maybe if it was $2.50 like TF2.

In general Umi, you seem to forget that this is a demo; it's likely some of what you say (lack of noticeable AI Director, easily found great items, easily killed infected, small and frequent waves) was changed specifically for the demo. If the game comes out with the problems you have with it, I'll be disappointed too. But until then, I'm reserving judgment.

But also, some of what you're complaining about (e.g. music and lighting) is from Valve trying to do something different from the original campaigns. Both the music and lighting are [probably] campaign-dependent. I doubt the Swamp campaign will have cheery music and from the screens I've seen of it, it isn't bright and sunny. And the Swamp is what I'm mainly looking forward to. But I'd expect the Carnival campaign in particular to have more cheery music than normal while still retaining creepiness.

I've yet to play the demo , though (huge download), so... But by disgustingly bad hit recognition for melee weapons, do you mean like melee weapons in TF2? Or is it even worse?

Yeah, but if the demo fails to make you interested in the game, it's kinda failed its purpose. Why would I buy the game when I can't even stand the demo?

Anyway, the hit detection for melee weapons is about the same as TF2. Bad, but managable.

Well, i believe the hit detection is intentionally bad, to compensate for the fact that otherwise, there's no use for the melee weapons.

What I mean is, the zombies can be standing right next to you and your weapon still magically misses for some reason. It's not bad that it hits things that shouldn't be hit. It's bad because it doesn't hit things that should be hit. And it's worse if there's lag, so it can be a noticable problem.

Again, it's not too big of a deal. A minor annoyance.

Umi, you put my feelings into words a lot better than I could have.  All I could think of is that it was too fast-paced, but yeah, when I played it felt like kind of a shooting gallery.  Like it was HAY GUYZ THERE ARE ZOMBIES IN THIS DEMO KILL THEM OKAY.  I didn't feel any danger.  At ALL.  Oh hey a jockey grabbed some guy, let's point and laugh while he bitches on teamtalk.  Oh there's acid on the ground, I guess we'll sit back for a while.  There's a witch?  HEY GUYS WATCH ME CHUCK THIS BOOMER BILE ON HER oh god that's hilarious.

When we got to the end of the demo, my teammates told me not to close the door, and then we went back and started shooting more zombies.  And we ran out of zombies.  RAN.  OUT.  OF.  ZOMBIES.  The very first time I ran through that little fence labyrinth near the end of the second demo level I thought it was kind of neat because oh god zombies all over the fence, but soon it started looking like there was just no imagination, because that part was pretty boring.

So we ran back and forth and tried to lure zombies out and eventually triggered another horde or two, and didn't get hurt at all.  Oh hey watch me spam rifle rounds.

What difficulty were you on, anyway?

Also, stress relief is embodied by setting difficulty to normal, grabbing a machete, and KILLING EVERYTHING. EVEN TANKS. AWESOME.
