I'll be getting L4D2, I don't really see a problem with it.

No buying until they release fixed matchmaking for L4D1 and hopefully a versus mode that's a little more evenly matched (IE not absurd loads of health kits).  If they can't do that, I can't trust their new game to not suffer the same problems.

Ida know, l4d was nice and all, but it NEVER should have been sold for full price.

The devs themselves said that it's basically nothing more than a very polished CS mod, and once they had the director AI going level design was a breeze and so unbelievably easy and comfortable from then on, so easy, in fact, that you hardly can call it work.

Ida know how much I paid... was it 20, was it 30? I still feel kinda ripped off. I mean... I agree with almost all the design choices they made, I really like how it turned out, but it never felt like a complete game. I mean come on, telling people "you got director AI, it has such a high replay value" is complete bullcrap. What a game like this needs is ... either a whole shitload of maps, so you dont know every friggin little corner by heart or either procedural generated levels that dont look like you're having a diablo deja vu. Dont know wether or not that's even possible. But once you know a map it's a lot less fun.

And since the game was so short and actually very incoherent (WTF? you TOOK OUT the scene with the helicopter that rescues you from the hospital crashing, because you didnt wanna diminish the players success? so you actually thought it would be a good idea to simply NOT EXPLAIN WHY I NEED TO BE RESCUED AFTER EVERY FRIGGIN MAP?) I dont see me forking out for part 2.

And the whole "zombie movie" thing is a bad excuse for the storytelling. Just watch the intro. It's pretty obvious they went for immersion and "give them the feeling this really happens" in the beginning. the visual effects that make gameplay look like a zombie flick are a good idea, the fucked up storytelling is not.

If you have the whole team shooting, with upper tier weapons on expert.  The tank can go down before incapping anyone...  and before killing anyone, especially in open areas.

Otherwise, its fire and run like hell...  if there is fire.  If not, you have to shoot it down... backtrack all the way back to the safehouse...  and/or sacrifice people to move ahead.

Just remember that in some circumstances, the tank CAN knock down the safehouse door if you backtrack to the start.  It's happened to me twice when playing on Advanced...the tank knocks it right off its hinges.

Fact: On certain maps, you can act as the handlebar in the safehouse.  Crouching under it, then trying to stand up.  You've got it when your crouching icon isn't showing but you still arn't standing while under the door.
(I don't remember if you have to have the crouching icon or not actually...)

Also, avoiding and not getting hit by the tank long enough means that the tank will eventually run out of steam and die on its own too.  Had that happen running from far ahead in a map all the way back to safehouse.

Fun story behind why that works in versus.  See, in versus, if you don't see the PCs for a certain amount of time, you lose control of the tank.  If that happens twice, it goes AI controlled, and if the AI can't path to the players anymore (or just too far away), it dies.  Used to be, it didn't die if that happened--it just went idle until the players came by.  So competitive teams would go and 'park' the tank somewhere really horrible further down the level.  When the PCs got there, it would wake up, in the worst possible place to run into a tank, AND the infected team would be attacking with four SI's at once.

I'm such a font of useless knowledge :P

I've only played the campaign mode up through Advanced.  I'm not very good, I'm pathetic with a pump shotty, can't even aim with a hunting rifle, and I deal way too much friendly fire.  I'm usually the guy standing in the wrong place, and I tend to use up two health packs per game to my allies' zero or one.  My excuse has been "I just got the game last week", for the last three months.

Wanna play Expert together?   ;D

That actually sounds fun :) What's a nice party without the clumsy guy?

What I can't stand however, are people that do crap on purpose because they think it's funny to shoot the car with the alarm on/startle the witch/set the team on fire and then go "xD" in chat...

Yeah, I'm definitely the guy who makes life harder for the rest of the team, but they just have to keep helping him because four guns is better than three and some misplaced sense of loyalty.  But I don't fail on purpose.  I just fail because I fail!  And it makes it more fun, maybe.

Hmmm, just hope people dont catch up on the fact that ONE npc in the team is actually a good thing. It seems they're really good at picking up some slack...

edit:
but this part
My excuse has been "I just got the game last week", for the last three months.
Is really really funny ... reminds me of the Simpsons episode, in which Homer joins the navy. In the end he says "It's my first day" (his generic excuse at work) in several languages and everybody forgive him for screwing up that badly  ;D

I suppose, just stay away from weapons you suck at.  Being in normal or advanced though, you can practice with em...  (I find myself acting very cocky and reckless on normal or easy... when I do find my way into em by accident...  with the very very low damage...)

Friendly fire, it hurts a lot.  But, you can shoot smokered and huntered allies without risk of friendly fire.  They have friendly fire protection for about a split second or 2 after the smoker/hunter dies too... (A god send actually...)

As for health packs, frugality.  It really annoys me when people use it to heal themselves before they get downed even once...  they normally get downed right after wasting the kit...  just so the AI Director can emphasis for us what a waste that was.
Not so much when they use it on the first down...  but that is what pills are for...
Pills if you know where to look are normally plenty.  Health packs are only ever 4 per section...
I always save for when people are black and white...  but, I have been in teams where we were good enough as a collective to not save it for black and white....  plus they heal me despite protests... >.>  I can only feel obligated to return the favor.

Downed allies are your shield.  Use them, but protect their downed arse...

Oh and the finals suck the most... hands down...

Tank slaying tactic:
Aggro Management in open areas:
Everyone splits up and attacks.  When it chases you, you stop shooting at it so it goes after someone else.  That person stops... and so on... continue till tank death...  Evade as needed.

Something I realized as really effective recently... on No Mercy finals terrain.
four guns is better than three

AI can be effective in many situations with their super eye sight, except for when you get huntered/smokered/boomered.  They suck as support after the fact.
They are great otherwise, even when fighting against tanks... Well... if its a stay and fight together thing.

Eh, if you are on the 360, sure.  I don't have PC version.  I suck with the mouse archetype in fps.

Are you in the DFC community on steam? We can always fail miserably at expert mode together.

btw, rule of thumb: no left4dead round should be won without ONE (and i mean exactly one) person screaming "LEAVE ME BEHIND, I WOnt MAKE IT!" on voice.

Not in expert, afaik. And that's a good thing. Usually melee attacks are best to free constricted team members, IF you are close enough. If not... well, just aim properly. But personally I just HATE the FF immunity when pinned down on the lower difficulties.

You sure?  I play expert 95% of the time I'm on L4D...  I've basically shot up anyone and everyone that got smokered and/or huntered...   never hurt or downed em...

Unless my aim is that good...  Or its a PC version difference?
