I declare the first ever DFC Mutation night a success!

We got exactly 8 people and instead of playing the newest Mutation, we went for some Realism Versus, which was great fun from the first map of Parish (where I got to the saferoom only to hear from my team to go out and save Benzene. I would've, if the Charger hadn't grabbed me right after I opened the door and pounded me dead against the doorstep) to the last one of Passing where everyone was struggling to get just one can more and the game ended in flying automobiles and an amazingly close 20-point victory.

More of this, definitely.

Damn! Hard Eight is really hard! But quite fun. =D

For Hard 8, we played Dead Center on Normal and couldn't get past delivering the Cola. We tried a good 3 times before people had to leave.

But the doubled Specials (this seems to apply to Uncommon Commons as well, as there were tons of Hazmats, mostly in pairs) are really frenzying, especially because we tended to get 2 pairs sent at us at the same time and then more right after. I almost want to have a mini Mutation Day during the week next week so we can play it together again.

But of special note for Hard 8, I didn't notice Tanks being doubled.

Next week is Healthpackalypse, which is supposed to be for Versus, so hopefully we'll have 8 people again for Mutation Day/Night.

Tanks and witches aren't counted as special infected, I don't think.
They're a special class, perhaps considered "boss infected".
Or maybe just tanks.
I don't know.

I'll be having a game of L4D2 tomorrow, taking another stab at the Mutation. Find me on Steam ([DFC] Zai) if you want to play along, likely on Normal (Normal was plenty difficult the other day, even for people who normally play much higher; but then, I don't think any of us used mics). Hit me up whenever I'm on, and we'll find enough people to play with. I'd rather not make another group event, though, as some might consider it overkill for so few people playing. I also don't want to commit to a specific time tomorrow. If I can't sleep again, I'll see who's on at whatever time that has the game.

I think I'd like to play either The Passing or The Parish. The Passing for the easier finale due to having 4 extra Bots that can't die (I think), and The Parish for a challenging finale. Making it to the end of the Bridge with pairs of Specials coming after us will makes Jockeys and Chargers more than just a double threat since they can incap Survivors by running off the bridge. I'm not sure if that's in bot AI, though, so we may not have as much to worry about as I think we will. We may do both, warming up on The Passing and then doing The Parish.

I think this Mutation would be even better on Versus or (better yet!) Realism Versus (though that might be too much of a challenge). And it could even keep the normal 4v4 (rather than having 4 people sit out each Survivor round in 8v8) by having 4 Specials be bots. Alternatively, it could seem like even more of a heavily modified mode by having 12 people play at a time, with the Infected continually playing round after round like normal Campaign, instead of playing the campaign twice, and then going back to lobby to switch. Though unless any of these ideas are implemented in a fashion that includes Campaign-like restarting (not likely due to eating up loads of time, though this would have the least effect in my non-doubled-up idea), the high difficulty of this Mutation might be stripped away somewhat due to not having to restart, similar to Realism Versus.

Regardless, I'd love to see this Mutation return as a normal game mode (or at least an option when starting a campaign). It really was quite fun the other day.

[EDIT:] Heh. I said "4 bots" in The Passing that don't die without thinking. I meant 3.

[EDIT2:] Judging by what I've seen on the Steam forums, I'm the only one who enjoys Hard 8. =/

Pardon me, but didn't you say you just got L4D2 the other day? I'm not sure you're the best judge. =P

Seriously though, I'm not sure I'll be able to play today. Comp has viruses. But we shall see.

Oh, come now Zai.
I enjoyed it too.
I actually managed to complete the campaign we were working on a few days ago.

You didn't have to quote my entire damn post. Didn't you learn anything about quotes from playing mafia? :P

Unfortunately I am unsure if I will have my computer worked out by even Saturday for Mutation Day. Nothing I do seems to be having an effect but we shall see.

I have no idea.

I'm going to try and figure out a bunch of console commands so that I can help us play however the fuck we want, the consequences be damned. I started looking them up because I want to put in more Infected in the game while we play to create a sort of Hard Eight, but possibly in Versus.

This should be fun.

Set them all on fire. Setting a car alarm off would suck.
