I tend to prefer long range accurate guns like the desert rifle or the military sniper, balanced by a non chainsaw melee weapon for horde control.

I hate the AK with a passion, what is the point of a high damage gun if it doesn't hit what you point it at. The M4 works in a pinch, but it seems a bit too weak for my liking now.  And I still dislike shotguns, did in left 4 dead 1 as well.

If for some reason I'm forced to use a shotgun I will try to switch out my secondary for a deagle.  I must have some kind of decent long range weapon, I'm not happy unless I can pop a jockey off the back of a survivor from the other side of the dark carnival finale.

The grenade launcher, while nice, is too situational for my tastes, and I don't trust pub server teams enough to properly back me up while I'm using it, so I always let somebody else grab it.  Same with the chainsaw, though that's more for my dislike of it then anything else.

I need to play with you at some point greiger, also;

The AK is by no means inaccurate, sure, it's less accurate that the other rifles, but the shot is a kill on Commons (Apart from Realism expert, i think) and if you crouch and don't move, as i do when  i acquire it (Only if it's a last choice, or there's huge hordes that need thinning) you can generally replicate the SCAR's accuracy.

Eh, its just a thing that detracts for me.  Killing the same trailer trash everywhere... + some uncommon.  Something more... respectable would be nice I guess.

The AK is pretty nice for its power.  I've found that when I get fire or explosive ammo on any of my weapons, I tend to save em for tanks or something.  Its a fine arrangement, I'm pretty accurate with the desert eagle or double pistols.  This is on advanced though...

I've also learned to hate using weak stuff like the sub-machine gun class weapons.  Too many bullets to kill 1 common...  irks me to no end when I pop em with a small burst expecting them to stay down... and then they get back up.
I suppose that is a lesser issue with the M4, but the power of 1 shot/burst kills (with winning penetration bonus) compels me like no other...

And yea, wasn't Valve tooting about... if you have L4D2, you can play L4D1 maps and stuff with L4D1 players?  I want that.

As for the new characters, havn't played enough to say I like em or hate em...  Ellis needs to STFU in the safe rooms though...

I wonder if there's a chance that some bizarre abstract levels will be made.

The most abstract one I played in the previous one is the Night Terror pack; and that was mostly due to the theme of the last part, and how the attic of one level leads you the the basement of another, and the front door of that level leads you into the Mines of Moria. But I don't want it to be too abstract. I'll leave that to Zombie Master and Counter Strike.

You can already do that, it's called L4D1.  ;D

maybe if L4D1 had the spitter, charger, jockey, flaming ammo, 6-10 new weapons not including melee and new throwable items and a defibulator.

Finally Valve seem to have found the right track with L4D updating:
Quote
Left 4 Dead 2 Game Add-on #1 Announced

Dubbed "The Passing," the first game add-on for L4D2 brings the original Left 4 Dead (L4D1) Survivors down south for a meeting with the L4D2 cast, while delivering new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay.

Targeted for release in early spring, "The Passing" takes place just after the Dead Center campaign of L4D2. Set in a small town in rural Georgia, players assume the role of the L4D2 Survivors as they meet with the L4D1 characters.

In addition to the new co-operative campaign and associated narrative, "The Passing" will include new arenas for Survival, Versus and Scavenge mode and introduce a new co-operative challenge mode of play. The Passing will also include a new "uncommon common" zombie class, melee weapon, and firearm.

"The Passing will become the most important campaign in the Left 4 Dead story, as all the Survivors are being called together in one campaign," said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve. "It will also be a huge offering of new gameplay content, with something new for every game mode plus a new uncommon common and weaponry."
Link

This will be cool, though I still wonder what's in the future of Midnight Riders.

Also, the modding tools for L4D2 are rumored include support for all kinds of custom models, like survivors, special infected, weapons and common infected. Weapon functionality supposedly can be edited. I guess there will be some crazy campaigns to play in the future.

I have been having a lot of fun with this, shooting Jakkarra on expert mode is the best way to play.

M16 is awesome. AK is aight. The other assault rifle is horrible, I'd rather use an uzi. Although, actually, the uzis are tight as well.

The sniper rifles fire too slow for me to ever use them; as soon as a horde comes they're worthless.

Has anybody noticed a difference between the power of melee weapons, between say the frying pan and axe?

Also, it seems like double pistols are undeniably better than melee weapons, if only for range. Anybody not agree?

8 vs 8.....is that possible?

My understanding is that it's 4 humans still; I'm thinking that the originals will be NPCs, like the Church Guy in L4D1 and Whitaker in L4D2, except they may be like additional computer controlled players. Not really much to go on right now.

My take on Realism: (Normal, its like... as hard as Expert on regular mode... but I've been playing pug....)
Headshotting is a must, since I'm not so great at headshotting... and commons take more bullets to kill.... That means my general effectiveness in most guns is dramatically lowered.
Sniper/Hunter rifles do not 1 shot kill like it does in regular mode.
SMGs has never been a favorite of mine... even worse for me here.
Assualt Rifles: Favored weapon if I carry a melee...  AK47 doesn't 1 shot in realism either =/...
Shotguns: Favored weapon if I carry a Desert Eagle.  It still has 1 shotting power, but yea, my gun aiming skills sucks the closer they get to me....

Desert Eagles do 1 shot anything non-special.  My #1 weapon in realism actually...  It also still has some penetration.  Honestly, this is basically all I use if I get my grubby hands on it....
Double pistols suck a lot for me in realism.  (Not a consistent headshotter)
Melee weapons are better the normal pistols in realism.

As for the new characters?  As a group dynamic?  They seem less.... enjoyable.  Probably cause its more heavily scripted.  For example, Coach in the elevator, he always says the last same words before leaving the elevator.  Noone else takes those last words.
And I suppose I already said this, but Ellis still needs to STFU in the safe house.  95% of the time, its him blabbing to himself.

And yea, bots suck more in L4D2...  they are harder to manipulate into maximum effectiveness then in L4D1....
