I knew that pistols had unlimited ammo, I just figured that on Harder difficulties ammo would be an issue for the other guns. Ah, well, it's good practice anyway.

I'm looking forward to playing with my friends on this one. We've been looking for a new multi-player FPS ever since UT3 was such a letdown.

Oh hey, blog post!  Maybe now the new matchmaking--

...only allows you to find other people playing the campaign you want, like it always did, except now it works with custom campaigns.

Late late late on one of their promises, plus I've seen some modders say that the SDK doesn't give them all the stuff they need, and no idea if 4v4 matchmaking is happening at all.  D:

But yeah, on harder difficulties ammo isn't any more of an issue for the most part, because you usually want to advance faster, not slower.  And you'll be hanging around ammo cans anyway, when you do need to stop for a bit.

Good to know.

On harder difficulties I tend to use LESS ammunition.

Tanks aren't worth shooting.

Horde are best dealt with by shoving until they thin out.

And specials aren't especially tough.

Ehh, I haven't played on Expert much but it seems like it would be a really bad idea to shove horde unless there's really only one or two.  I mean they do twenty damage per hit!  Just take out your pistols and keep shooting.

But yeah, on expert, if you hit another survivor full-on with a shotgun by accident, you can expect to instantly incapacitate them.  You learn to be CAREFUL with those.

Finally picked up Left 4 Dead over the weekend. Only got to play for about an hour yesterday, but I did the first campaign mission on...whatever the default setting is. I didn't check. So either Easy or Normal. *shrug*

Anyway, it was quite fun. And I managed to get about double the kills of any of the bots, so I don't feel I did too bad for my first run through. Got hurt a lot, though, since being constantly on point can get a bit painful. I did have fun getting tons of headshots with the assault rifle, though. This seems like a game where getting into the habit of ammo conservation is a good idea.

It does start out quite fun.  Then a few hours later you've seen everything the game has to offer.  Can still get some enjoyment out of it with a good team on higher difficulties for a while more yet though.

Shoving saves lives when it gets up-close and personal...  Especially if you are taking point against a horde.  As you said...  1 swipe can do up to 20 damage...
There are times(many) where you and your allies arn't set-up to mow down an incoming horde or they are coming from every-which-way too...

When shoving... gotta really on team to shoot them... if its a significant number  (you should be crouching)...

Tanks aren't worth shooting.

If you have the whole team shooting, with upper tier weapons on expert.  The tank can go down before incapping anyone...  and before killing anyone, especially in open areas.

Otherwise, its fire and run like hell...  if there is fire.  If not, you have to shoot it down... backtrack all the way back to the safehouse...  and/or sacrifice people to move ahead.

Anyone played any Addons as yet?

I have played a couple. I think the best I have seen so far is Dead Aboard (?).

I enjoyed what I did solo of Dam_It!, however it is a very long single level, rather than a series of hops. It's also a bit light on med kits. Not a problem on Normal, but Advanced it is tough. And I'm not dumb enough to trust the bots to make it through Expert.

Just remember that in some circumstances, the tank CAN knock down the safehouse door if you backtrack to the start.  It's happened to me twice when playing on Advanced...the tank knocks it right off its hinges.

The tank can only knock off a safe room door if the bar holding it in place is removed.

Simple: If you opened the door, the tank can bash it open.

I think we've already answered that a few pages back.

To summarize: if it isn't compatible with L4D1, I'm not going to buy it. Even if it is compatible and the price is that of a full game, I'm still not going to buy it. No way I'm encouraging such lazy attempts at cashing in on their franchise.
