So, butchers.
« on: April 28, 2009, 03:41:45 pm »

Now, butchers don't need tools to do their jobs. Like an axe (possible new feature?). Which means that they butcher all butcherable animals with their bare hands. Even breaking down the meat, and tearing the flesh from the animal's bones. And then they probably gnaw the fat off the skin, just to chill out a bit. Without getting any blood all over themselves.

Making the butcher the most badass and dwarfy dwarf. Ever.

Yeah, but by that logic weaponsmiths forge swords with their bare hands. Can you imagine hammering a bar of steel with your hands until it was sharp enough slice a dragon in half?

And can you imagine using magma that's straight underneath you in order to heat said blade before working it with your bare hands?  Oh wait, at least you get an anvil.

Point. But the butcher doesn't feast on his prey, where as a sowrd or warhammer isn't all that nourishing. ;)

Don't forget, all those workshops contain rocks/blocks/logs/bars for your dwarf to use.  I just imagine my butcher lifting said rock the workshop is made out of, and hammering the animal into base components.

What about gem cutters, who can cut diamonds with their bare hands?

Engravers. They karate-chop excess stone off walls and then carve images into it with their fingernails.

I have concluded that a legendary miner/engraver/mason/gem cutter seems to resemble this fellow:
