I am working on my mega project... obsidian tower. I have the tower formed and am carving, but in the mean time I am terraforming the outside world... and a few questions arise.
1) Stones sometimes change type during a z-level drop?
Normally, I start dropping the top z levels down, until I eventually get a giant flat area... but I have noticed that sometimes a stone level will change during the drop. For instance I had a level that I dropped and in the dropping the obsidian changed to marble. The grass/soil/tree levels remained as they were, but the stone levels changed...
Any clue on why stone occasionally changes type during a drop?
2) Is it better to drop levels from the top or bottom...
I was thinking maybe it would be different if I dropped from the bottom, rather than the top.
I could start with the bottom levels first... is there an advantage to either way?
3) Is there anyway to drop the z-levels that meet the edges of the map.
I would love to drop the entire map to one flat level, but I don't think it can be done due to the fact that the edges can't be mined. Any thoughts?
4) Is there anyway to change stone into soil? I would love to get some of my pure stone tiles to turn into grass, but I have found no way to do it. Any suggestions?
5) What happens to the outside tiles that are left after a farm plot is removed? It is no longer muddy, but will anything grow there?
6) Last question.... I have caught 4 or 5 deer and the deer have had babies, none are tamed.
I was considering letting them loose in a large inclosed outdoor area. Will they still manage to leave the map if there is no actual exit available to them?
I love the idea of having a wild deer herd that can't leave the map. The King's private game.
Thanks...
