I look at the world differently after playing DF
« on: April 27, 2009, 03:42:05 pm »

Now, I am not sure if people think differently, but I was walking outside after school, and I noticed on the ground there were ant hills. They were tiny ant hills, and I appreciated the work they had done for a moment. I looked at the series of hills that probably connected together, vertically and horizontally, amazing. What rooms connected, where they stored food, eggs, and so on. Where their queen was. So, after thinking about it, I destroyed it. Losing is fun right? xD I decided to give those ants a little fun.

Anything you think of differently?

Yes.

You.

Either you're a clever troll, or just an asshole.

Ants aren't really set back by collapsing the hills they make and they don't have can_learn so any soldier is as good as any other. If you really want ants to have some "fun" you need to flood their fort with magma, or alternatively concrete.

I personally have been mentally hitting ctrl + > as I walk down stairs these days.

I also have been dreaming in top-down ASCII...

I have been playing DF late too much  ;)

My uncle pours gas down wasp nests, then drops a match, sounds a little like some forts I've heard about.
I call for flammable liquids!
Edit: I mean besides booze, I mean something that would flow like water.

A lot of video games have this effect. After playing too much Team fortress 2, I would check to make people are not trying to stab me, and in other video games I would shoot teammates in order to spy check.

As for DF I sometimes just look at architecture with more respect, same for farming.

I didn't mean literal terms when I said that.
Like, look at our way of living.
Space efficiency, transportation highways, and what not. That applies in DF.

I want to keep checking my inventory and wounds screens.

And I want to toss all the random metal junk I have lying around into a smelter to make it into something useful.

The Raven has been knocked unconcious!

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

I keep looking at my neighborhood and thinking how much more efficiently we could get around if we connected all the roofs or made some interconnected underground passages. Then again, ive got a mind that sees every object as a potential weapon, and gauges areas for defensive value subconsciously.

I thought I was the only one, just about an hour ago in Distopia I whipped around and blew away my team's decker while he was decrypting an objective. I was guarding him and without thinking I noticed "somebody" suspiciously standing behind me on the radar.  Naturally the team did not appreciate this.

For those who don't know friendly fire is always on, and deckers are people who capture the objectives in a separate cyberspace thing sorta like those old Megaman battle network games.  The decker dying at an objective is a very bad thing, because it takes a long time to get organized enough to get to the point and have enough cover still alive for him to accomplish the mission.

More Dwarf Fortress related, a couple years ago I saw some mushrooms in my yard and said in front of my friends "Oh look, a plump helmet."  I have had a couple DF related dreams since then.  I also had a dream that was some funky DF TF2 mix thing, unfortunately I don't recall the details of it.
