Well, thats what they get for leaving the decision up to an online poll.

Its how Steven Cobert got a section of the ISS named after him after all...

NASA is still making the final call on that, IIRC.

it's a good thing that online poll is not representative

who knows how the world might be if moot actually had significant influence on it ?

Debating this subject is rather a... moot point, is it not?

... That was terrible. Sorry, but someone had to make the inevitable joke.

Online polling is okay so long as nobody accepts it as a basis of fact for anything. Anytime someone says, "According to the online poll..." you may ignore that person for the remainder of the conversation. It should not be used for proof of anything besides that the internet is a haven for folks with little to do. Case in point, right here.

There have been thousands of false calls to the end of the world. This is not one of them.

(My favorite "End of the World!" happened in 19-19th century England, where the leader of the cult told everyone that the world will end next week, and then told them to buy one of his Heaven Robes so that they would be prepared for the end.)

My favorite is the current one. 2012. "A BUNCH OF ANCIENT CAVEMEN THAT BUILT PYRAMIDS HAVE A CALENDER THAT ENDS IN 2012! WE WILL DIE THEN!"

Seriously... What?

But Mayans could tell future! How else could they have prepared so well for climate change?

Because they didn't have meddling politicians. Seriously. Scientists predicted global warming ever since oil was being used.

I just read the article. TL:DR, the guy who created 4chan got 90% on the Times scale of influence, making him the most influential person in the world.

4chan... Armok help us if they ever organize...

The point is they *didn't* prepare, and their whole society collapsed. Shows how credible their prophecies are.
