A Very Short Rant on Zen
« on: April 26, 2009, 09:37:52 pm »

I don't have very many opinions on religion, but all the talk around here reminded me of one I feel very strongly about.

To commercial advertisers: You don't know what the hell Zen is. Please stop using it in commercials. Absolutely cease naming products after it.

To the makers of the Zen Micro. An MP3 player containing the word "zen" makes as much sense as a stereo called the "Orthodox Rock Box"
or a blender called the "Shiite Shaker".

To the yogurt company with the commercial that describes your sludge as "zen wrapped in karma", this makes as much sense as describing it as "Calvinism wrapped in trans-substantiation" or "Snake Handling smothered in the Immaculate Conception".

I am not on any medication, at least, none that I am aware of.

Hide the pills guys, he's onto us!

But yes, advertisers really don't care. Just advertise to the lowest common denominator, as they will likely be stupid enough to buy this product.

 ...

 Nihilist-filled unificationist shell.
Polytheism blended with a hint of Lutheranism.
Ancestor Worship topped with thick Conservatism.

Somebody should make a generator for these, but I fear advertisers would grab a hold of it.

I agree on all accounts, though I note I have a Creative Zen Nano+ and it's actually quite a nice MP3 player for its cost and size.

Unfortunately advertising is based on the Rule of Cool*

It's what my Mom uses as well, and she doesn't have a problem.

You should create a religion consisting of numerous brand names and proceed to shoot off lawsuits left and right.

or a blender called the "Shiite Shaker".

When you say Shaker here, my first thought was this followed by "huh?"

I read that too quick. For a second there I thought you wanted me to shoot lawyers left and right.

Hmmm, Microsoftacocacolanikehershey...ism?

What? Corporations are heartless, soulless things that only care about money and will exploit anything to increase their profit margin? REALLY? I'D HAVE NEVER GUESSED!

An mp3 player is sitting in the woods and nobody is there to charge its battery. Does it make a sound?

What is the sound of an mp3 player colliding with itself?

1: No.

2: The sound of cheap plastic hitting cheap plastic.

Zen fail.
