I have the same morale and like 500 more people than Maniac. Plus, I'm hurt by overcrowding and have no army and no advanced technology. Plus, the zefies are completely nice to non-hostile people.

Does the leather actually have a use, or I need to research it first?

Is it a morale booster?

I dunno if it has other uses, but it's used to make armor. I think leather armor is mandatory equipment for hunters.

Well, not mandatory. Those are really more example/starter units; if you want to field some troops with different equipment, go ahead and ask.
Leather can also be used in place of wool to make clothes.

So if I go through the trouble of getting mining and archery, then building an hunter's camp, along with extra labor to refine stuff, I can get to my 10 morale?

No, leather clothes and wool clothes are the same. (The same is not true of jewelry; silver jewelry and gold jewelry are different, I just didn't feel like typing that out when it's not an issue yet.)

Yeah, but I've been busting my ass to keep close to you.  And due to the fact that you have a lot more food then me, I won't be able to keep that up too much longer.

Yes. He's rather dissatisfied with the idea of peace. Personally I consider sudden militarization justification for a preemptive strike.

How delightfully disingenuous. Look, if you want to be a warmonger there's nothin' wrong with that but really, you might as well come out and say so.

You're probably right. While it's early to kill somebody from the game and I don't like destroying people, I'm paranoid and don't like being at peace with people who could be planning to destroy me if I have a chance of stopping them from getting strong enough to threaten me. My psychotic nature in wargames is complicated.

Long story short, I'd much rather weaken people with raids than outright destroy them, and tend to leave non-combatants alone.

...

That doesn't actually make sense, though, now that I think about it. You know, I might just decide to be militant antagonists or something, indiscriminately raiding various people. At least until/if Vanigo introduces a greater threat. As in DF, I'll try to be more of a nuisance than a true threat.

Soooo... basically the same thing that you're already doing, yes? Well, minus the pretense.

Well, yes. I've never really thought much about why I behave as I do diplomatically in games. Now that you've caused me to analyze myself ... I don't want to be a jerk, and yet ... war! Bloodshed! Carnage! Ellipses abuse! How can I say no, even if other options might technically be better?  ???

I'd be highly disappointed if the goblins didn't turn out to be belligerant warmongers!

Hey, can I research weapon/armor upgrades or whatever at my Alchemists Lab? For instance, can I change my turn and be like, "Roawr, I research chemicals to coat the spears so they cause hideous burns to flesh on contact!" (read: ACID SPEARS!) or "Roawr, I research hallucinogens to coat my spears with so if someone gets injured by them, they start trippin' balls!" or something like that?

Or alchemical treatments to make my wooden weapons better/stronger/sharper? Or steroids for my warhorses?
