Ok assumed that 'God' exists, i would see it more as an opportunistic creature that interfered with the Humanity for its own Goals then the "Almighty über-father". Especially considered the (mythological)existence of other "Gods" and "Godlike" creatures all other the world (Celtico-germanic/Greeko-roman/Agyptic/Hinduistic/shintoistic "Gods" etc.) lets me think that if "Gods" and 'God' exist that they dont have any right to reign or to interfere with the life of people even if they may have some powerful Mumbojumbo (Tech/magic/whatever).
Cudos to Prometheus, by the way, who brought the fire to the humans making them equal to the "gods" in terms of power :P .

edit: Thanks to all Ghosts State and religion are keeped strictly apart in most countrys. Religion is something personal so nobody has to tell me what i have to believe nor would i tell somebody what she/he has to believe.

Then why call it god?

Because of cultural convention. If i would call a "Rose" a "Borgle" you wouldnt know what i mean. Its just choosing the semantics in a way that biggest part of the readers here understands whom i mean.

Cultural convention would dictate that advanced beings possessing technology sufficiently advanced to seem like magic are called sufficiently advanced aliens, not gods.

lolz.

But yea, you can't really define something into being, and more so you can't redefine it into being.

My point was more along the lines of what exactly is sufficiently advanced? To us it means something completely different than to an iron age peasant, even today's tech could allow you to pass for a major deity back in Moses' time, and then where do you draw the line? How advanced is advanced enough to count as divine? Obviously it can't be defined in relation to our own tech level, since that is constantly changing. So how do you define it?

I would say, a type four civ would be close to divine. When matter and energy can be readily exchange with no effort by the general public.

Anyway, I'd say even then there will be things they can't readily do and would consider to be, for the lack of a better word, miraculous. Creation of their own personal universes, perhaps?

Well Type IV would be harnessing the power of an Entire universe.

Dunno if that would be enough power to create another universe though.

Not necessarily.

How so? I think that thermodynamics would say otherwise.

I have heard that, hypothetically, the universe is either infinite or expanding at a rate faster than the speed of light.  The reasoning behind that as I am given to understand is that the "edge" of the universe has not yet been detected, nor any traces of its existence.

It is entirely possible for a universe to be born from another universe, like a bubble being split from another bubble. Think of cell division. It's almost the same concept. At least, thats' what theory holds.

Well cells require energy to divide, so where is this "Universe Cell" getting its energy from?
