The ignorance in this thread makes me cringe D: .
Pointless comment is pointless.
I'm going to be totally ignorant of the content of his post.

I choose to be ignorant of your ignorance. Tell me, what was the content of his post?

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Science does prove stuff, because it is based on hard facts.
So is Science the Absolute Truth, then?

Almost certain, yes. By almost any definition thus encountered it is unsurpassed, and usually superior, in its likelihood to be true. Doubting science is sufficiently distant from practical reason that things like life and intent are irrelevant to any system that would discount it.

I don't see the point of the smiley, by those standards religion is about as likely as spontaneous combustion of the toes happening to every single person you wouldn't have noticed it in... Just because I am willing to be open minded doesn't strengthen your argument, it only strengthens mine...

Besides, this is about religion, not science, the only relevance science has to religion is that it keeps on proving religious conjecture to be untenable...

How can I be an atheist? Let's put it this way:

I do not bow to any man. I do not pray to any man. I do not ask any mans forgiveness, and no man can tell me what to do. You can ask and I will consider (note: this doesn't stop me from acting all meek in a job interview, for example). My point being, I do not believe any organized religion made by man during the course of history. How can any man decide what god says? How can any man decide "he's the voice of god"? How can any man decide how others should live?

It's not "I do not believe in existance of god". It's "I do not believe in men". Especially ones that tell me what to do and how to live.

*Edit* To make it clear, the best definition of me would be "Agnostic":

Nah. I believe laws are neccessary, and that order is better than chaos. It's just that...

Quote
Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
That pretty much sums up what organized religion is trying to do, in my opinion.

Actually, as an outside observer, it seems some people there like to use the "divine right" -thing quite a lot as a justification ;) Usually it's just masked well as statements like "greatest force of good".
