So far, all confirmed American cases have fully recovered after treatment. In fact, I currently have -a- flu, but I cannot say that it is that flu. Probably isn't, given that I was able to get out of bed and my temp. only got up to a little over 100.

That and my symptoms on the whole are strange.

Complete lack of appetite for almost 3 days now.
Inability to feel pain beyond everything hurting.
Inability to sleep for more than a few minutes at a time, up to, in the best case, an hour.
Constant sneezing for a day, then constant coughing.
Constipation.
A constant buzz that keeps me from becoming even remotely tired after any given amount of time, despite the fatigue of my body. I feel like I could stay awake for days, and did in fact stay awake for two on roughly 3 hours of total sleep.
Occasional bouts of shakes combined with the sensation of freezing, only alleviated by dunking myself and water and letting myself dry under a fan to make myself feel even colder.

Have you been to a doctor yet?

Nah. I'm feeling mostly better now.

Also, as for the potential for a pandemic outbreak, the Associated Press reports that there are currently 2 cases in Texas, 2 cases in Kansas, 7 cases in California, 1 case in Ohio, and 8 cases in New York State. This is on top of the initial 20 american cases. Gentleman, it's become human-human transmissible.

well, your looks like a quite strong flu, but i don't see anything  that would be truely strange.
everything is stronger than it should, but everythings seem to be explainable by normal flu.

but i am not a doctor.

about pandemic outbreak... i surely hope not! anyone knows what happens in italy?

No confirmed cases in Italy. Data posted on Wikipedia, article here, indicates that the virus has spread at LEAST through North America, with several likely cases across the world. It is entirely possible that I did contract the swine flu as the number of actual cases in a given country more than likely far outweighs the reported cases, simply because a good number of people do not go to the doctor for a flu if it seems survivable.

hmm... not yet in italy. do you think i could hire old madagascar president to protect my house? if he is uninfected and we are uninfected, he should help us greatly

(or, since he amde me so much angry while playing pandemic, then i could just throw him among the infected people and animals)

Well, some people like it.  It has a fair bit of subtle humor that a lot of people find hilarious.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

Aw man, I think I remember that Joe and Aqizzar both live in Texas.

Alright, Joe's a goner, but we can salvage Aqizzar.

I need you to follow these simple instructions:

1. Don't eat any weird food.
2. Don't drink any dirty water.
3. Don't kiss any Mexicans.

That should just about do it.

Me: not a medical professional.

Well, it may very well have been brought to Europe already, so Italy isn't necessarily safe. This is where things get interesting. The students from New Zealand who returned from Mexico on a language learning trip acquired a flu-like disease that is confirmed to be Influenza-A, which puts it in the same category as the Swine Flu, but more testing is required to confirm that more precisely [Swine flu is influenza A/9].

Did they acquire the disease from pigs? Probably not. Unless we are told that the students toured a pig farm on their trip, we have to assume they got it from human transmission. It remains possible that it is another flu altogether that they caught, but...

How did they return to New Zealand. The only obvious answer is via plane. Which means that they passed through an international airport. If we are generous and assume that they got a non-stop flight, the possibility remains that several passing people in that airport and definitely in that plane were exposed to the virus, and carried that elsewhere.

If we confirm that the strains in Europe, south America, and New Zealand are Mexican swine flu, it becomes obvious that the only possible origin point for the overseas cases is some international airport in Mexico, and then, other international airports around the world. Becuase International airports interact with each other through very few degrees of separation, they behave as if they were directly adjacent to each other.

Basically, what I'm saying is that if any one of the over seas cases are confirmed to be the Swine Flu, the probability that the other cases being the swine flu increases a great deal.

This becomes further complicated by the concept of carriers. For some people, even many people, the virus may make a person fairly miserable without ever being a threat to that persons life, and may not even interfere with that persons day to day activities. While the virus itself remains just as virulent, it does not present itself as such in carriers.

This is why the number of reported cases could be far lower than actual cases.

There are over 1000 reported cases in Mexico, and yes it does transfer between humans. All known cases outside of mexico seems to be people who either just visited mexico or been in contact with someone who have.

Epidemiologists have nightmares about international airports. They're the new ship rats.
